I know this is pretty random and sorry for that lol but don't you think it's quite interesting how The Phantomhives Vincent's date of birth, Claudia's date of death, the twins current age AS WELL AS Undertaker through his Shinigami registration number are the only characters in Kuro associated with the number 13? If not her birth date, maybe her death day will be one. Would be morbidly funny. As for whether or not it cursed the Phantomhive family, be it directly or indirectly, it is possible! I know some fans vouch that Queen Victoria found out about the Undertaker being a Shinigami and that it is why she ended up getting rid of both Claudia and then Vincent, but I disagree. Black Butler Kuroshitsuji is a series with some serious staying power. It debuted in , and until the present day, it has found incredible success in Japan and abroad, with the manga selling over 28 million copies worldwide. Not to mention every girl in my high school wore some amount of related Hot Topic merch. As of writing this article, the manga series has chapters, compiled into 28 volumes. There are three seasons of the anime, a video game release, two drama CDs, five stage musicals, countless artbooks, and two films with one of them a live action.
In April , Japanese manga fans were asked which five series defined them… and yes, Black Butler made the top But what is the pull? Set during the Victorian era in Great Britain, year-old Ciel Phantomhive is not your average child.
The blue-haired boy with a permanent frown runs a toy, food, and candy company, Funtom Corporation, and acts as the head of a noble family. Immediately following the horrid attack, Ciel is kidnapped and sold as a slave to a cult, its members shown to worship and revere demons.
Tortured and abused at the hands of these devil-worshippers, a night comes in which a summoning is performed, with the cult members attempting to use Ciel as a sacrifice to bring forth a demon.
However, when the demon Sebastian appears, he plainly states that Ciel was the one to summon him, making the young boy his true master. Of course, as anyone would be likely to do with a powerful demon servant at their disposal, Ciel orders Sebastian to slay the cultists and rescue him from his cage. However, there are a fair share of laughs to be had, and a bevy of characters with equally complex backstories and motivations.
There are dozens of vital characters introduced throughout the manga and anime series. The ones introduced here limit the risk of spoilers, and give you the chance to experience this moving tale on your own terms. Season Two of Black Butler introduced audiences to two new anime-exclusive main characters alongside Ciel and Sebastian.
The first and second seasons of Black Butler have 36 episodes which aired between and , along with an additional seven OVA episodes. While the first season contains characters and plot points which can also be found in the manga, season two was completely original, with characters and a story that could only be found in its episode run.
In , a new anime adaptation was released titled Black Butler: Book of Circus. Selling out seats in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka, the shows have been so popular with fans that they have held re-run performances, also touring to China in In , a live-action film based on the manga series was released starring Hiro Mizushima as Sebastian.
However, a much more successful animated film titled Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic was released in Soon after, Funimation licenced the film in the states, and it was screened in theaters across the country.

The manga and anime series Black Butler features an extensive cast of characters created by Yana Toboso. The series takes place in England during the reign of Queen Victoria. It follows Sebastian Michaelis, a demonic butler obliged to serve ten-year-old later thirteen-year-old Earl Ciel Phantomhive due to a contract he made with Ciel. Ciel binds Sebastian to his will to exact his revenge upon the people that humiliated and tortured him and killed his family in order to make them suffer the same pain. He is the demon butler of the Phantomhive household and acts as Ciel Phantomhive 's bodyguard. Being a butler is a job he is completely devoted to, following Ciel's orders with great loyalty and swiftness. He enjoys challenging Ciel and doesn't seem to be truly concerned about his well-being at times, insulting and irritating him to see his reaction. However, there are times that he displays concern for Ciel's life, such as when he was worried when Ciel had an asthma attack , and again later on when he had a panic attack. Sebastian has a fondness for felines in general, stating he cannot foresee or control his own reactions and feelings when in presence of one. As a demon, he has also shown to be extremely ruthless, sadistic, and manipulative to his opponents and is intrigued with humans' behaviors and attitudes, as he finds them interesting because of their insatiable greed.
