One cannot forget the good old days when all you had to worry about was finishing off the holiday homework in the summers before getting back to school. Most of us would wake up on Sunday mornings to watch our favourite shows on TV, and if we had school on the weekdays, we'd just wait out till 5 PM in the evening to catch up on shows like Pokemon, Beyblade, Powerpuff Girls, Swat Kats, and so many others on Cartoon Network. Unfortunately, with time we got older, busier, and forgot about the cartoons that played a huge part in our lives. Even if we didn't the evolution of Cartoon Network as a channel with all its new shows didn't quite hold our interest anymore as the golden shows were long gone. To something that will clearly excite you and make you feel nostalgic again, Cartoon Network India is coming up with some new exciting shows while reviving some loved cartoons from the golden years as part of their new Redraw Your World campaign that encourages kids to be in their own skin. For the last few years, Cartoon Network and POGO have focused on coming up with local animation shows that have steadily been witnessing an increase in viewership. Ever since the government announced the lockdown in March last year, people have been stuck at home.
It has changed the way we live, work, study, consume content and shop. The lockdown has also meant people are now spending more time at home, consuming content on different platforms.
Television viewership has gained massively. This spike in viewership has also led to channels in the genre to up their content game. We recently caught up with Abhishek Dutta, South Asia Network Head for Cartoon Network and POGO, to understand the impact the pandemic has had on the channel, its content strategy and the launch of its new superhero indigenous show.
