Sign In. Trese —. Hide Spoilers. Art and animation: Similar feel to DC cartoons than Japanese anime so it's sharp, crisp but a little stiff on the side. I like some of the action scenes especially the shaky effect. Also love the background art, really good!

Trese Review | Philippine Mythology has never looked this Good

In its never-ending quest to cater to every audience possible, Netflix has entered the world of original anime series. The streamer is coming off of shows like " Castlevania " and " Yasuke " , and they also have a back catalog of old anime shows for die-hard fans to watch. Now, Netflix is adding another series to its roster. The recently released trailer suggests that the adaptation will feature plenty of gore, as well as supernatural elements that are common across the world of anime.

Now that fans have seen a taste of what the new series will offer, you may be curious to learn more about "Trese. The comic book series, which is set in the Philippines, has become quite popular there since its initial release per SyFy , and it's even won a number of awards.

The series, which is still ongoing today, had almost been adapted into an anime in the past, but Netflix ultimately landed the rights to make the show a reality in Now, almost three years later, the series is coming to fruition. There's been no word as of yet about whether "Trese" will return for a second season after the first one airs.

Netflix isn't likely to renew the series until its debut, which will allow it to see how popular the show ultimately becomes across its service worldwide. If the show's a success, Netflix is likely to greenlight more episodes. If not, it might become one of many one-season wonders from the streamer. Because the series has Filipino origins, the English-dubbed version of the show is filled with an impressive roster of well-known Filipino American actors.

Dante Basco, who played Prince Zuko on "Avatar: The Last Airbender", also has a central role in the series, lending an iconic voice to the anime. Given the impressive roster of talent the show has assembled, it's clear that Netflix has some hopes that the show will be a hit both in the Philippines and around the world, even in countries where "Trese" is a less well-known title. As the series progresses, fans will also be treated to Trese's sidekick, a dwarf-like creature named Nuno sa Manhole, as well as her two twin bodyguards.

Trese and her team take on monsters who have their own plans and agenda, and the series chronicles her journey to take them down. Given that the series is ongoing, it's unclear how much the anime version of "Trese" will diverge from its source material, or how much ground the show will cover in its first season that's been directly lifted from the comics.

The series looks to feature plenty of violence, but the adaptation choices remain an open question. Fans are undoubtedly eager to see the books adapted faithfully, but the makers of any good adaptation know when they need to leap beyond the pages to tell the story the right way. When's the release date for Trese? Who's in the cast of Trese? What is the plot of Trese?

Set deep in the heart of Manila, Trese depicts a world where the shadowy underworld and the world as we know it live together side by side. During the day all is well but at night, the shadows come out to play. With a loose alliance formed in the past by a man named Anton, this accord looks set to be broken by restless dark forces.

Trese Netflix Review: 9 Ups & 2 Downs

Season one of the anime Trese has been officially uploaded on Netflix last Friday, just in time for the rd anniversary of the Philippine Independence! Now, it is time for us to review this anime adaptation. Trese primarily centers on a young Alexandra Trese who investigates supernatural crimes while keeping in check those who reside in the supernatural side. There are six episodes on its first season and it instantly dives into the lore of Philippine mythology and folklore. The story is well written and is engaging from the very first episode. It shows immediately what threats we should expect to happen in the near future on the next episodes. Even though it has only six episodes on its arsenal, we get a concise history of who Trese is, her backstory, and the world she lives in. There is no need for more expositions to tell the story as it lets its circumstance tell on what is happening.

A really cool anime based on Filipino culture with a strong female protagonist? Ito na! basically, the whole series is based on a really old Filipino.

Its production team deserves the chance to work on this show without feeling the pressure of debuting the first Filipino animated series for an international streaming platform. There is perhaps no clearer example of a series that is simultaneously telling a story, and aggressively making a case for its own marketability. This first season of Trese almost feels like a pilot episode stretched to six chapters. It wants to pay homage to early installments of the source material created by Budjette Tan and KaJo Baldisimo, which are centered on no-nonsense private investigator Alexandra Trese solving supernatural criminal cases in Manila.

Trese: Season 1 is the latest addition to the ever-growing anime catalog of Netflix. Based on the characters from Philippine folklore, Trese is an adaptation of a popular comic book series of the same name.

Netflix has made strides lately with anime, particularly with Castlevania and Yasuke. Now they're looking to continue their hot streak with Trese , which just dropped its first trailer. And if you find yourself in need of some cartoon blood and guts now that Castlevania has bowed out, this looks to be your type of show. Based on a action-horror comic by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo, Trese's central conceit is that its creatures all hail from myths originating in the Philippines. Similar to other fantasy horror leads, Alexandra Trese specializes in supernatural not the show crimes, and there's plenty of those in her home city of Manila. As you can see in the trailer below, this includes the dwarf-like Nuno sa Manhole, a charming creature who gives some much needed advice to the titular hero. With further help from her twin bodyguards and the Manila PD, Trese will face an army of monsters with an agenda all their own.

Coupled with the fact that the series features an impressive cast — including Shay Mitchell and Liza Soberano as the English and Filipino voices of Alexandra Trese, respectively — Trese is definitely a show that Filipino fans are eager to see. After all, there are only six epsiodes that are just around 30 minutes each. This might be a bit too short to give justice to the source material.
