Terror in resonance of fate

The prologue takes place in wintery Aomori, a prefecture in northern Japan. Snow blankets a lonely road that an armoured truck is travelling on. Behind the wheel is a young man who is wearing a hazmat suit and humming an upbeat song. His destination is a nuclear fuel reprocessing facility which is where another young man in a hazmat suit is coolly and calmly stealing nuclear material. Nobody in the guard room is on alert for anything until the truck nears the front gates which the security team attempt to close but the driver in the vehicle is way ahead of them and crashes through in the truck and then takes to a snowmobile to pick up his partner with the nuclear material. The two evade the guards and head off into the snowy wilderness.

Two parallel threads resonate: one connecting Shibazaki and Nine, and the other connecting Lisa and Twelve. Watanabe precipitates these moments with his eye for detail, as he continues to layer on echoes in theme, plot, and visuals. Aomori is where Watanabe chose to begin this story, with a heart-pounding assault on a nuclear fuel reprocessing facility in the dead of winter.

This seasonal dichotomy reveals a different side of Aomori. Whereas the wind howled and the factory moaned in the winter, here in the summer it is still and sweltering.

The specter of the nuclear facility and the deathly quiet of the summer must remind him of his own childhood in Hiroshima.

Thus, his desire to know how Nine felt stems from a desire to know himself better. If Nine was able to find some respite in his music from a cold land, perhaps Shibazaki can find some relief from the summer heat as well.

Nine too is aware of this connection between him and Shibazaki. He then proceeds to structure the next riddle entirely around reaching out to Shibazaki. Shibazaki responds in turn by obsessing over the riddle. He and Nine again form a mirror image —two men sitting in front of a computer trying to find each other.

The younger police officer compares Shibazaki to the terrorists, and the audience knows there is truth in that. Meanwhile, Lisa wanders the streets of Tokyo. Most of the episode takes place at night, and she spends most of her time imprisoned in this darkness see above. First caught in a rainstorm, she spends the night in a cramped alleyway.

The framing either reinforces her status as an outsider , or communicates how, even in her newfound freedom, she is boxed in by other people.

Her phone is her only hope of salvation, the hope that Nine and Twelve might contact her again. However, Twelve does track Lisa through her phone. He pieces together that she must have run away from home, and he tries to appeal to Nine with this further piece of commonality between them. She admits the futility of her actions, that she just wanted to go somewhere else, to not be constrained by the rules of a society that cast her out. Twelve receives confirmation that what he first saw and felt in her was indeed familiar—the sense of abandonment, the desire for escape.

Thus, he arrives as her light in the darkness and whisks her away from the police on his motorcycle, just as he did in episode one. Who knows if falling into his life again is the best thing for Lisa, but her desire to see the world destroyed is so heartfelt, so triumphant, that it feels like the right course of action.

From the beginning, Sphinx have presented themselves as sentai heroes : agents of justice whom we would normally expect to fight terrorists, not identify as them. Interestingly, however, after their horrendous first attack, their subsequent efforts have become less and less destructive. Yet this diminuendo of explosions has been paired with a dramatic increase in their profile.

The initial blast fades away, but Sphinx have capitalized on the memetic nature of how people consume media, using their riddles and mysterious identity to propel themselves into stardom. Terror illustrates this disconnect between media and reality beautifully in this shot, with the stark contrast between the glossy veneer of the news station and the dilapidated state of the television itself.

The pursuit of truth is noble, but whipping the public into a frenzy via the threat of a nuclear attack is a difficult thing to balance it against.

Watanabe confirmed in an interview this week that there is indeed reason why he chose to make these terrorists teenagers:. The series also includes themes of adolescence, or rather, the youthfulness of the teenage years and their immaturity and instability, but with the feeling of constantly being on edge and challenging everything. I wanted to depict those ideas in this series, and I think everything gets mixed together in Terror in Resonance.

Nine, appropriately, indulges a bit in his childish side and has some fun with the police. These echoes of reality persist and entangle the series in our own experiences. The three children of fate unite, staring down society, while Shibazaki stands uncertain in between. At least one more player remains to be seen in this story, but time is running out for Sphinx, and their games are likely to become more dangerous very quickly.

Terror in Resonance Ep. 6: Wild card

Source: myanimelist. This story has an extremely rare premise, possibly only rivaled by Eden of the East. We are always treated to stories told from the point of view of the detective or the-person-out-to-save-the-world, and it gets boring after a while. Having said that, we know that the protagonists of Zankyou no Terror are not truly bad guys but are merely misunderstood heroes. Through their acts of terrorism, which notably, do not seek to cause harm to human lives but merely causes disruptions in communications and transport, they seek to send a message to the world and bringing a truth to light, by choosing a method of theatrical showcase that puts them in the spotlight. AND it adds impact to the story, which is what makes it so unique in the first place. Of worthy mention is the way the OST set the atmosphere and mood of the show.

Not enough ratings. They both live in different worlds. Lisa is quiet and almost always sad, while Twelve is Lisa's opposite. Their first encounter immediately struck Lisa especially the smiles of Twelve that were like the heat of the sun which gives her peace. It was a short time when they were together, but that didn't stop the two from liking each other. But destiny is always a bad thing. Even destiny goes against them.

Gifs by: oogoediamondd , yuno-chi , gantaigarashi. Just wow. This is one of the best episodes I had ever watched. Zankyou no Terror probably does it in the right way. The characters, the stories, the way they animated the moves, the songs just caught my attention.

Lisa Mishima goes to school with Nine and Twelve. She is bullied in class and has problems at home too. After meeting with Twelve, her fate changes dramatically. Lisa is a quiet girl who is easily bullied due to her clumsy behavior and introverted nature. Her introversion makes her keep her problems to herself and usually resent the outside world. She feels she has a connection with Sphinx duo, and feels that the three of them share the same disconnection with the world. Despite her initial setbacks and doing dangerous operations with them she still chooses to keep on living, showing that she has plenty of courage and perseverance. She also seems to be quite clumsy, burning and dropping food, and also activating cellphones detonators by touching them accidentally.

In an alternate version of the present, Tokyo is struck by a shocking terrorist attack, the only hint to the identity of the culprit is a video they uploaded to the internet predicting the incident. The police are left powerless to stop the paranoia spreading across the population as they search for the criminal master minds behind this tragedy. Behind the scenes, two peculiar children skillfully carry out their plans. It makes you question what matters more between the journey and the outcome. The story is told from multiple perspectives which adds to the mystery and intrigue of the show. The main perspective is that of Nine and Twelve, the two geniuses with a past shrouded in mystery who have launched an attack on the city of Tokyo. Though we initially know nothing about the two, we get to learn more about them and their motive as the story unfolds.
