Paranoia agent episode 1

At best, the conspirituality movement attacks public health efforts in times of crisis. At worst, it fronts and recruits for the fever-dream of QAnon. As the alt-right and New Age horseshoe toward each other in a blur of disinformation, clear discourse and good intentions get smothered. Charismatic influencers exploit their followers by co-opting conspiracy theories on a spectrum of intensity ranging from vaccines to child trafficking.

I am a big lover of satoshi kon's work and was excited for this one, with what ive heard about its slightly fantastical social commentary, but after the first few episodes the show takes a strange turn into something much weaker and less interesting.

Worth watching for the first few episodes, but reserve expectations on the ending. Helpful Report abuse. Love this anime. The only reason I finished watching it was because I had already bought it and didn't want to waste my money, so I wasted my time instead. Each episode is mostly a stand-alone short story, with new characters appearing only in one episode, or disappearing just when you start to care about them, only to reappear many episodes later after you've forgotten their names and faces.

There is the loosest thread of a plot connecting all of the episodes, and I was only able to make sense of what I had just seen by reading the summary after I had watched each episode, since the clues to what had happened in the episode were so subtle that I missed them, because the totally random structure didn't motivate me to care enough to pay close attention. Flashbacks, fantasies, alternate realities, new plot threads, and the main story taking place in the present are all jumbled together in such a swirling mishmash that I felt like Bernard from Westworld season 2, and found myself repeatedly asking "Is this now?

Those made way more sense, and as such, I was able to actually care about the characters. Maybe not Paprika so much, but even then, I still could follow and cared about what was happening more than in "Paranoia Agent". Apparently there is some message about not getting too devoted to cute anime characters and just facing your life, but I'm not sure I would have gotten that so clearly without reading the overall plot summary.

Perhaps I could have taken the hint and would have been better off if I had skipped "Paranoia Agent" entirely. By the end I didn't care if anyone lived or died, won or lost, or grew or didn't.

I just wanted it to be over, like this review. Nixon Reviewed in the United States on June 19, One of my all time favorites, not the top 10, but definitely in my top Back to top. Get to Know Us. Audiences unfamiliar with anime might consort it with other animations typically aimed at kids. This is possibly due to the public perception that anime is constantly brimming with adorable-looking characters and ostentatiously vibrant animations. Confounding both younger and mature audiences, anime does contain a handful of characters who display questionable antics that would even intimidate horror film buffs. In the face of likable heroes with an unyielding moral compass, these creepy characters make us squirm in our seats with their unsettling presence while gasping at their unique persona.
