To tell the truth, I did not expect this anime to be good, because, well, it is popular, popular horror anime tends to be underwhelming. And that expectation stayed after watching the first two episodes, slow paced, intentionally creepy girl, dolls and what not. But slowly after going deeper into the lore, the backstory, it got more interesting, and the plot twist I guess was influenced by M. Night Shyamalan with his plot twist to The Sixth Sense, not original, of course, no plot twist is original, but was really done well, with clues scattered all over the earlier episodes.

The story is about a cursed classroom third year third class in a school named Yomi North in Yomiyama district. The lore is, in , there was a popular student referred as she in the storytelling, but was actually a he died and his death affected the class so much that the student of the class, , acted as if the boy never died , his name was Yomiyama Misaki.

Then during graduation, the whole class was shocked in seeing the class picture that the student who died is in the picture too. Apparently after the incident, year after year everyone related to the class dies, students, teachers, immediate family members, are all cursed due to the act in , where the event attracted supernatural event in the school.

Chibari said it is only a chance. The event also have the element of class records magically gets altered, memory of students are altered and so on, which gives this horror-mystery a tougher nut to crack.

The anime started with introducing the main character, Sakakibara Koichi , in a hospital due to lung complication named pneumothorax with his grandmother and aunt, Reiko. Due to his sickness, he misses the few weeks maybe a month of class. Three class representative came and visit him in the hospital, namely the class rep Tomohiko Kazami , Sakuragi Yukari, and an oddly named position, in charge of countermeasures, the tsundere Akazawa Izumi. Koichi then accidentally met Misaki Mei , a creepy girl with an eye patch holding a creepy doll, in the lift of the hospital, claiming she was visiting her other half in level B2, where the morgue is.

When he finally went to school, Misaki Mei was also his classmate, but she was oddly ignored in class. Mei being a creepy girl rather than explaining what is happening, made the situation more vague and causes Koichi to be more curious. This prompts Koichi to follow her back home, and he found the doll shop she is living in.

This is one of the more interesting scene in this anime, where Koichi suspects Mei to be a ghost or dead, and the whole scene sort of logically reveal that she may be, but she is not. In fact this is the main attraction of the show, where the events that happen can be explained through supernatural reasons, or just plain logical reasoning.

When he entered the shop, the shopkeeper claims he is the only customer in the shop. Then he head downstairs, to see more creepy dolls, and while looking at a doll that resembles Mei, Mei suddenly pops up from no where. Only now Mei explains the lore of the class, the first part at least, and understands one part of why Mei is ignored, eventhough for a while he did think she was dead due to the shopkeeper saying there is only one customer in the shop it is true since Mei is not a customer.

The first victim , in May or at least in the view of the class students was Sakuragi Yukari , who in shock of seeing Koichi and Mei conversing outside of the class, run to the other side and slip on the stairs, where she was accidentally impaled by her own umbrella.

Again, going with the theme, it can be a curse, it can also be an accident. The second victim was in June, the nurse that was friendly with Koichi, Mizuno Sanae , who after in a call with Koichi she said her brother, Takeru adamantly claims Mei does not exist.

She dies when the elevator malfunctions and fall. The third victim , also in June right after the death of Sanae was the death of Takabayashi Ikuo , a boy with heart problem, wanted to tell everything to Koichi, but he had an heart attack.

Again, pre-existing heart problem, compounded with stress and anxiety, can be logical. Koichi and Mei developed a friendship and finally the rules and story were properly explained.

This reveal shows that the deaths started at April. Mei also have one fake eye that she covers, which she claims could see the colour of death person and people who are going to die. The fourth as seen by the other students victim was their homeroom teacher, Mr. Kubodera , who brought a knife to school, claiming no one can escape the curse and killed himself in front of the class.

It was revealed that he killed his sick and dying mother too, this murder-suicide can be explained logically too, as the teacher was stressed, to the point he could not cope anymore juggling between taking care of his mother and being a school teacher of a rumored cursed class. Reiko was also a student of class , and the deaths stopped after an event during summer holidays, apparently a student then, Matsunaga solved the mystery and stopped the deaths during his year there.

The team of Koichi, Reiko, Izumi the tsundere girl , Teshigawara Naoya, Mochizuki Yuya, Takako Sugiura, and Nakao Junta went to a resort outside of the city to find Matsunaga, where an additional lore is, the curse does not follow if the family moves out of town. The team accidentally met Mei there too, as her family went for a holiday trip there, where she claims the trip was just an act to show that they are still a family with her father works out of town.

The fifth victim , Nakao Junta died here, in August, went he was trying to get back a ball blown to the sea, a boat crossed his path and tear his limbs. The event scared the class more as the curse happened outside of the town, but further police work shows that Junta died before the boat hit him, as when he was still at home, he hit his head, and caused internal damage.

Again, can be chalked up to accident and negligence. Seeing this, Matsunaga remembers some details saying he left something in the old class that was about him saving the class before. The team of Koichi, Naoya and Yuya decided to search for that something left by Matsunaga , they went to school and first met Ogura Yumi and Ayano of the theater club and explained what they are doing before bumping into Mei in the arts club room.

The three boys and Mei went exploring in the old classroom and found a recording tape. They played the tape, where the young Matsunaga was the narrator, saying the trip to an old shrine did not lift the curse , which was also the plan of the current class.

Matsunaga then describes two more deaths, one by lightning, where the kid was the only one with an umbrella, basically became a lightning rod, and the other girl in shock, ran and slip up. Both of these deaths can also be chalked up to logic rather than a curse. The tape stalls before Matsunaga explains how the curse was actually lifted and the tape broke. Yuya took the tape home to fix it.

This is in July. The whole classroom went to an inn, just below the mountain where the old shrine is, as the class hoped to lift the curse there. This is where the final act happens, a lot of killings, a lot of blame going on and assumptions of who is the dead person due to lack of information. With other evidences such as other classes does not have an assistant homeroom teacher , and the extra table this time was actually in the teachers room, rather than the class.

Koichi killed Reiko and lifts the curse. For me the clues are smartly scattered all over the earlier episodes, with the characters and audiences focusing too much in the classroom, on Koichi and the purposefully made creepy Mei. The whole mystery could be solved even before Koichi entered the school.

It was unnecessary suspense and students not trusting each other, and Mei being too mysterious, and etc. I know junior high school students are supposed to be dumb, but when your class is the only one that have an extra homeroom teacher, that should raise some flags man, especially with the countermeasures girl, Izumi.

But yes, granted they do not know what to do until the end, but the class could avoid a lot of misunderstanding by knowing their teacher is the one who is dead but came back. And Mei, even when she was being chased to be killed, she does not react like a normal human, she just stands and walks away, what the hell is that? Self-fulfilling prophecy is a concept in psychology and sociology to describe a situation when a prediction of a certain event or behavior comes true and we start to belief in that prediction.

For example, a fortune teller tells that you will find love around the corner, and in several weeks, you did find love, and you attribute finding love to the earlier prophecy the fortune teller tells you.

Or you can wiki the definition, better examples there I guess. In this case, the belief of the story is class is cursed , everyone knows that to the point they have someone for countermeasures and have rules to avoid the curse.

Which should be explained from Day 1 in class, making the students aware of such believe. Her death comes after the rule was establish, or supposed to, as in episode 0, Mei did say to Misaki that her new class have weird rules.

The May death shocked everyone as Yukari was shocked at Koichi and Mei conversing freely, thinking she is doomed since the rule was broken by the new student, in her hastiness, she fell down and killed herself, albeit a bit Final Destination like, but possible. This event strengthens the belief of the curse is real. In fact all deaths compounds that belief and it fulfills itself, as unnecessary deaths occurs, like the heart attack, the lift accident, the brain internal damage. In fact all deaths of the students are self caused, thinking the curse is real and dying in effect.

I know there are different effects and phenomenon interacts with self-fulfilling prophecy to make all of this happen, but even the ending can be explained the same way, after killing Reiko, everyone wanted to belief the curse ended, thus it ended, any accidents later will become accidents and not exactly curse.

Mass hallucination exists. Stress, insanity, anxiety, hallucinations, delusions, all can explain what is actually happening in the town and class But of course, the author being a Stephen King fan, there is a mix between psychological and logical condition with the supernatural, as the class records changing, memory deletion, where being a psychology major I know memory is not that easy to forget, especially in high emotional events such as the deaths of your classmates.

This is a long post, but I hope it was a good read and all readers got a good insight in terms of self-fulfilling prophecy. Have fun. Like Like. You are commenting using your WordPress. You are commenting using your Twitter account.

[Review] Another (Anime)

Bubble ending spoilers follow. The film follows two star-crossed lovers, Hibiki and Uta, as they attempt to understand each other, as well as the mystery surrounding the 'Bubble-fall' event that caused Tokyo to flood. While most of the movie is fairly simple, the final act refuses to give easy answers about what, why or even who the bubbles are. With that in mind, let's try and unpack that confusing ending. The movie opens with a race between the Blue Blazes and another group. Afterward, we see that the Blazes live aboard the Reiyo and get introduced to Makoto, a scientist studying the effects of the mysterious bubbles in order to work out what happened and why same tbh. Through exposition from Makoto, we learn that five years before the events of the movie, strange gravity-defying bubbles fell all over the world.

Jujutsu Kaisen Series Review And Summary

The sheer scope of director Katsuhiro Otomo's masterpiece anime "Akira" is mind-boggling. While the film only takes place over several days, the spiritual and philosophical density of its myth extends far beyond that timeframe, into both the past and future. The movie begins with an apocalyptic explosion, unsubtly reminiscent of Hiroshima , which has for decades continued to be a point for reference for Japanese science-fiction. The origin of that explosion is the namesake Akira, a psychic child also called an ESPer who ascended to the level of a God and whose power kickstarted a singularity that destroyed the world and created a new one. Akira exists in the film as both a metaphysical entity — a stand-in for various deities — but also exists in a physical form, deep beneath the surface of Neo-Tokyo. Neo-Tokyo is the setting of "Akira," and it's a post-apocalyptic hellscape of flashing lights, conspiracy cultists, military raids, and biker gangs. Navigating their way through this tumultuous city are two best friends Kaneda and Tetsuo. Kaneda and Tetsuo's divergent paths in the film are foreshadowed early on during the biker war between two gangs known as the Clowns and Capsules.

REVIEW: ’86 EIGHTY-SIX’ Season 1 is Thematically Messy But Darn Good

The thing I love about many new anime films is that they often serve to introduce me to excellent series I missed out on during the years when I didn't watch any anime. And as the theatrical film of Anohana will be released in Japanese theaters this weekend, now is the perfect time to look back at this excellent TV series. WiFi everywhere Capable of Mbps 5 GHz connections, covers a far larger range thanks to the eight high-gain antennas, uses WPA3 for improved encryption and security, and can actually be upgraded further with certain routers to create a mesh network for even better coverage. On the surface, Anohana is the story of Menma, a girl who dies in an accident, then returns as a ghost to haunt her best friend, Jintan, five years later. The problem is, neither Menma or Jintan know why she has returned. Of course, neither of them have any idea what this wish could be.

It also contains discussion of suicide and self-harm. The final episode of Link Click leaves viewers absolutely reeling by the end. The donghua is notorious for its cliffhangers and Episode 11 is no exception: A new enemy appears, and in terms of ability, they appear to be on a similar playing field to Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang. And while the duo thought they had the upper hand, as it turns out, their dangerous new foe has a few tricks up their sleeve. Cheng Xiaoshi deduces that the duo's time-traveling has created an alternate timeline -- one where he received the killer's message about attaining a clue in Link Click Episode 8. He also realizes he himself is the one who gave said clue to the killer. This murderer does not like being provoked -- he'll be more likely to make mistakes in anger, so Cheng Xiaoshi wants to capitalize on that weakness.

The anime movie Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko is bold, bright, and surprisingly cruel

Now, I'm not going to talk about how flaws or greatness of the material from the project, but the non linear storyline of Kagerou Project. Everything about Kagerou Project is actually one big story, that isn't easy to piece together just by only reading the manga, light novels, and certainly not he anime. But once you understand the full story, it's actually something great and I would consider it to be a really good story.

But in the same way American comedies about man-children growing up Knocked Up and their ilk spend far more time on gleeful stoner antics than on the final-act messaging about moving past that phase of life, Lady Nikuko spends much of its run time and energy on exaggerated mockery of a fat lady before eventually, grudgingly acknowledging her as a person. The Lady Nikuko of the title is Nikuko Misuji, an energetic, brash waitress who lives on a small boat in a small coastal town along with her vague, drifty year-old daughter Kikuko. Nikuko is larger than life in every way. She loves complicated kanji puns and number puns.
