Rioushu 10 years ago BillyTwoCents 10 years ago Ocean Dub is supposedly better, at least for accuracy of the lines. It was at first, but it really seemed like Ocean decided to just give up. The Ocean Dub was great up until that point where Funi took over, then both were terrible, Ocean started rehashing old soundtracks from the old Megaman Show it's really funny hearing them because I watch that Megaman show often having it DL'ed and all and Funi just didn't get there act together until the next arc.

I like Funi, it's a good dubbing company, they did YuYu Hakusho which is arguably better than the sub, the lines feel like they relate to how the characters are portrayed a lot better.

It's cool to, people sound cooler for liking the sub more or something.. There are a few people here who actually prefer the sub for good reasons, but there are a few others here that won't explain themselves and just say it because it's cool.

The mistranslations, this is legitimate, lines like "Raditz is faster than the speed of light" and "Kid Buu is the strongest form of Buu" all cause more harm than good.

The pop culture references, Nappa shouldn't know what a bus stop is and Freeza shouldn't know about earth related things I dont know any lines off hand , but DBZ isnt the only show to do this and sometimes subs do to, it's just far more relevant it seems in Dragonball Z.

I mean, people love the odd translation Final Fantasy 6 had with the "Son of a Submariner" and the "Self Help Booklet" lines so much they were nearly kept in tact in later translations, but if DBZ does it the sub fanboys rage.. In all honesty most of the sub voices sound the same no different than the dubs do, all the Son family sounds the same even Bardock and Turles?

To flame the users who do enjoy the Funi dub. The DBZ dub was basically a learning experience for Funimation and it shows.

Their dub continued to get better, although the music should have just been left as it was in the original. I don't mind Bruce, but Funi's phobia of silence just ruins the show at times. It also seems sloppy at times due to changes in the voices and music. They should have re-dubbed everything.

The original version is just overall better. Of course, everyone has their own preference. I never had a problem with any of it, as I grew up on the Ocean-then-Funi dub. Even going back and seeing what the above user said as them trying DBZ as a new dubbing company, I can appreciate the raw, unpolished version.

It has a lot of charm, although to each their own. I guess anime fans want all English dubs to be literal translations of the Japanese script. The Funimation dub of YYH kept the same plots and changed little important dialogue, but they also added a lot of character to the scripts that the original just did not have. I think the Funimation Kai dub shows how far they've come in adaptations, as that's really a pitch perfect translation of the manga's script.
