Rosario + Vampire Seasons 1 & 2 Collection Review

After failing his high school entrance exam, Tsukune Aono faces falling behind the rest of his classmates and taking a year out. However, after his parents pick up a flyer for the suspiciously named Yokai Academy, Tsukune ends up enrolling there and is happy to get his high school career off to a start, despite his poor grades. However, as he finds out to his surprise on his first day, Yokai Academy is actually a boarding school for monsters! Thankfully, Moka is a nice but lonely girl who is in the need of a friend, and she quickly warms to Tsukune, despite him being a human.

While a monster-of-the-week series can be fun, I struggled to get into a lot of the early episodes here, as the rinse-and-repeat nature of both the action and the perverse humour quickly becomes stale. I found our bunch of monster girls to be a lot more interesting though, as they have both a cool range of abilities as well as specific hang-ups that are tackled later in the story.

Kurumu the succubus is a nicer character than she first appears, as even though she employs frivolous use of her large breasts to try to seduce Tsukune, she at least values her friends more than her nature, and develops a fun rivalry with snow woman Mizore which explodes in the second season.

There are some problematic elements however, particularly with characters such as Yukari, who is often over-sexualised for her age and is treated as the token loli character who is not only trying to seduce Tsukune herself but has one of the older students pining over her. While a lot of this is intended to be funny, it often just comes off as creepy and in bad taste.

Thankfully, things do improve towards the end of this first season, with the battle against Ruby the witch and her plant monsters, and the plot around the Security Committee trying to take down the Newspaper Club that Tsukune and the gang are members of, being much more involved and sees the cast thrust into life-or-death situations.

The second season, however, swaps the monster-of-the-week formula for a stronger focus on being a harem romantic comedy, and it honestly works a lot better, giving us silly storylines that work well to develop the cast of characters, even if they do follow a lot of the typical genre tropes.

Animation for the series is handled by Gonzo and varies wildly in terms of quality. Early episodes feel particularly low budget, with heavy use of still frames and an over-reliance on simplistic fanservice, as it shovels in copious panty shots every few frames. However, things do improve as the series progresses, with the final couple of episodes in Season 1 looking generally okay as we see some decent action sequences.

The opening and ending themes for the show, sung by Nana Mizuki, are pretty great however, and will be instantly recognisable by those who may know her for her more recent work such as in Symphogear. This short-form ecchi comedy series is bottom-of-the-barrel entertainment that sees teachers placed into compromising and erotic situations with their students, who then quickly become the object of their affections. In this noughties-throwback and quirky action-focused thriller, we join Sumire Takahana as the new girl at Venus Vanguard, a secret organisation that fights and protects humans from demonic creatures known as Viruses that consume human souls.

As she pairs up with Lucia and the rest of the gang, Sumire must learn to use her supernatural powers to fight off the Viruses and figure out why she and Lucia are their prime targets. Over a decade since it first aired, Toradora! While it does lose some of its early momentum in its second half, Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs is a decent ecchi romantic comedy that is at times surprisingly good-hearted when it puts its full weight against its fun cast of characters.

Sign In. Hide Spoilers. To be honest, reviewing things on the IMDb has become a very unattractive pursuit in the last few years, for reasons I shall not go into here. There is the manga, and there is this anime. Comparing one to the other is important, because it is important to understand why fans of the manga still cry out for a visual media adaptation. Manga and anime alike start through the eyes of a boy in his mid-teens who goes by the name of Tsukune. Tsukune is a profoundly average boy, and has failed the entrance exams to pretty much every school in Japan.

Characters

The main character of the series is Tsukune Aono , a teenage boy who, after not getting accepted to any local high schools, enrolls in Yokai Academy, a boarding school for monsters. He meets Moka Akashiya , a vampire who soon takes a liking to the sweet taste of his blood, and throughout the series, befriends and attracts a variety of monster girls including: Kurumu Kurono , a succubus ; Yukari Sendo and Ruby Tojo , who are witches; and Mizore Shirayuki , a snow fairy. In the second manga serialization, the Newspaper Club faces more monster characters and a larger organization known as Fairy Tale, whose members include Moka's own family. In developing the characters for the series, Ikeda cited influences from Tim Burton 's works, and research on various monsters from encyclopedias and the Internet. The characters have been commented on by reviewers, who had mixed feelings about Ikeda's artwork, but criticized the character development and its missed potential. The anime adaptation received negative criticism for its fanservice, and mixed reviews for other aspects such as voice acting. Characters have also featured in various merchandise, character songs and polls. In an interview at Lucca Comics , Ikeda said he is a big fan of Tim Burton and was inspired by his works, including The Nightmare Before Christmas , and particularly Edward Scissorhands because the monster has a sensitive soul. He had also researched various monsters from encyclopedias and the Internet.

One of the things I missed most during the pandemic was being able to gather together with my friends for a game night. There were a few games on display at Sweet Suite that piqued my interest. Funko Games just recently announced this game, so those of us who attended the event last night were some of the first people to see it. There are two ways to build your deck and your figure collections. There are 40 figures to collect, including the ultra-rare blue tinted ones which will only be found in the game balls and several items — like Carpet from Aladdin — that can only be found in the game packs.

We're into Amazon Prime Day day 2 now, and there are still quite a few anime deals to be had. If you're a fan of physical media like I am, today is a great chance to pick up deals on 4K Blu-ray , Blu-ray, and even DVDs outside of just anime deals.

Youkai Academy is a seemingly normal boarding school, except that its pupils are monsters learning to coexist with humans. All students attend in human form and take normal academic subjects, such as literature, gym, foreign language, and mathematics. However, there is one golden rule at Youkai Academy—all humans found on school grounds are to be executed immediately!

Tsukune begins his life at the boarding school with high hopes for a simple school life, a dream that quickly disappears the moment he finds out that Yokai Academy is a secret school for monsters. As a school rule they are to stay in human form as practice for their lives in the human world. Tsukune also finds out that any human found at the school would likely be killed. You see we know Tsukune is the plucky hero in a harem anime and is soon surrounded by a bevy of lovely Bettys. The plain, weak, yet kind-hearted human becomes the love of not just one but four amazingly alluring girls.

A span was walking around the urbancenter, when they felt a sexual tension.

An oldie but goodie series that really hit home in the terms of feelings. Harems can be really hard to pull off because of it's formulaic plot. This anime was also no exception and treaded on the same lines. However to me since it was one of my firsts, I still have my bias that makes me love every character and their scenarios. The plot of the story takes with Tsukune, a normal teenager who is sent to a high school where he thinks everything is normal. Little does he know that this school is crawling with supernatural beings, and from that point he must hide the fact that he is a normal human or else will be at the feet of these "monster.

There is no shortage of vampire anime. Even in non-vampire anime, a vampire or two may make an appearance for just an episode or two. Vampires are just fun. They live a lifestyle with complex morals, have abilities beyond humans, and often times have lived for many generations.
