Line variation is extremely important in this panel, which creates depth, and gives the panel a portrait-like feel. Togashi uses hatching to create shade levels, and is one of his most famous panels. Togashi experiments with some interesting layouts during this fight, and this one feels atypical for his style. Movement lines frame both Meruem and Netero, drawing attention to their facial expressions. The movement lines also serve to help us understand where the characters are in relation to one another. The lines behind Netero reinforce Meruem is coming down at an angle.
