I went looking on message boards attempting to read any recomendations and went for one whose name stood out to me. That anime was Tokyo Ravens which I picked just for the heck of it. Once I got caught up with the series I had to view each new episodes on a weekly bases. For a short time it would my go to show even if it was just to pass the time. Then the longer it went on the more it dragged getting to the finish line.

Please note that for this release, apparently Anime-Koi not only barely touched the Funimation script they worked off of which, per my standards, means I never should have reviewed this in the first place , they also made it noticeably worse. IRC channel : [email protected]. Looks like A-Koi went with the bare minimum they could get away with. Yeah, you can use idioms every now and then instead of beating the English language over the head with a shit-covered phrasing stick.

Try it sometime. This is top-tier English torture porn. If this reads fine to you, add two full letter grades to the final script score and take a bath in a garbage disposal. Taking this conversation as an example, this is intended to be a fully functional discourse. But what do we get here? The viewers have to logic leap on their ends for this to make sense.

The word has nothing to do with the conversation. Combine all these screens together and you have a full scene that Anime-Koi thought was acceptable enough to release to the anime-viewing public. If I want to watch this show subbed, I have to pick either GG or Anime-koi, and in my book, some silly translation choices beat out frequent errors in both grammar and word choice.

Cellophane novel? What is that? Do you mean Cell Phone Novels? Do you consider that grammar error? How did you miss that idea?

Is that grammar error?! Kon: I stayed by your side all day today. Kurahashi Miyo. The doyenne of the Kurahashi family. Man I must say here your suggestion matriarch is wrong. She is quite the famous pro exorcist in Exoticism Bureau, Spell Crimes Investigation Division beside other organizations which belongs to Onmyo Agency. The answer is like this: What are you studying? Administrator when you mentioned this line, you literally awed me. Kurahashi Miyo is really a big shot in the onmyouji world.

Kurahashi Miyo literally saying he is troubling them so using annoying here would be a bit of going liberal. Natsume has been putting up with that kind of thing this whole time. Yeah seems my guess was right koi group is more of literal group. Preference from your side? Warmly waiting. I try very hard to make it obvious when I am in fact offering a full line correction by indicating so with quotation marks or the like.

Yes, it may be confusing to you as a non-native speaker, but without such remarks, my reviews would be very boring to native readers and those who have a decent grasp on the language and my sense of humor.

Lines need to fit basic grammatical standards AND be reflective of how people actually speak. There are certain sacrifices that need to be made due to inherent differences in language and culture keep in mind that it is impossible to even attempt a translation between languages. A good example of something that can never be exactly as it was in Japanese is Bakemonogatari.

It falls flat. Why would it? See, the only way to make this line right is to make another line right, and it just keeps going and going since the subs are all linked together in a giant, tangled mess of stupid.

I mean, you can just look at English idioms for this. Waiting eagerly here. Lot of the sentences are poorly worded, and when you take a FUNi script, generally, you need to reword their stiff lines. There is quite a few grammar errors, though.

So, uh, how exactly did this qualify for a review again? So again I ask you why exactly this was even reviewed as these kinds of releases are usually disqualified by you, and how you can even recommend something that took an already bad Funimation script and somehow made it even worse through their obvious lack of care and effort.

Very valid point. Yeah, it only qualified because I was unaware there were Funi script rips lying around. Tokyo Ravens has not put me in a good position.

Only reason I made the comparison was because I was curious after seeing this review. What the line actually says is that sorcery is all about contradictions like keeping around a guy who goes directly against their officially stated policies.

Feel free to keep pretending you were right all along and have made no mistakes though, it really is quite amusing. Anime-Koi change every instance of mage into exorcist. At least I can watch it with my brain on auto-pilot. Canon aside, does Fail beat Disqualified? Also, should this entry still be tagged D-Tier on the home page? This is just bad… Reply. Inb4 editor swap. Cancer lasts for more than 1 week silly Reply.

Yes it is a typo. Looking forward to your replay Reply. Someone does not get the joke. If you need any clarification at all, just ask. Okay, now for the line-by-line… Reply. Continued in next post Reply. Kay even the line I just made up was shit, but I think you can see my point. So salty. True, but he has a point. Oh what the fuck… Yeah, it only qualified because I was unaware there were Funi script rips lying around.

XD Reply. Actually, fuck it. Policy change time. What line are you talking about exactly?

Tokyo Ravens: Season 1, Part 2 Blu-ray2015

This 'book' is basically a little review of an anime giving you my opinion of the show so you can hopefully decide if you want to watch the anime or not Btw some of the reviews I did a while back so there not accurate but cba changing them XD. Harutora Tsuchimikado was born into an onmyouji family, but has no power to sense spiritual power whatsoever. His estranged childhood friend appears one day to take him up on a promise he made long ago to become her shikigami. I was delighted when watching this anime, the plot is well thought out and the art style is fun and modern, also the characters are well detailed and most have deep pasts.

In a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the highest, Tokyo Ravens is a 7! (The last episode spilled out several good points that will definitely.

Anime Review: Tokyo Ravens

Not exceptional except for a few episodes, but solid nonetheless. But the ending comes at the end. However, the pure magic battles looked pretty excellent and Tokyo Ravens even managed a totally gorgeous sequence in the penultimate episode, when Kyouko uses astrology. It was, by far, the most visually beautiful moment of the series, so much so that also due to the music and the actual moment I was actually moved close to tears. Could a studio with better animation chops have done better than 8bit? Harutora, Natsume, Touji, Kyouko, Suzuka and Tenma each bring a different personality and a different dynamic to the screen, and while they each have somewhat archetypal structures, each of them have layers to their personality beyond what is simply presented. Harutora, for example, falls into the classic nice-guy archetype, but he also struggles with self-doubt due to his lack of magical talent for much of the series. Characters like these can sometimes be taken for granted in a longer series like this, but Tokyo Ravens engages their relationships well, albeit in a somewhat standard manner.

But what if, there is a magic based anime without much spells and with a clear love plot? The story is about a boy named Harutora, who is a member of the branch family of Tsuchimikado. He is persuaded to be an exorcist by his friends almost all the time. Some events, however, led to him going to Tokyo to attend a magic school. Those events are really unique, so check them out if you are curious While Harutora is there trying to do his best in learning the ways of exorcists, he makes new friend while many unexpected turn of events lies ahead for him.

Japan has been thrown into chaos by onmyouji, which is something akin to a magician. One day, his childhood friend Tsuchimikado Natsume, heir to the head family, suddenly appears, to take him up on a promise he made long ago to become her familiar.

The story follows the lives of Omyou students, who possess unique abilities in summoning spirits and controlling shikigamis familiar. They are gathered and trained inside an educational institution run by the followers of the legendary Yakou Tsuchimikado, who is said to have created the greatest spells of all times including the forbidden Taizan Fukun Ritual which is geared to reincarnating the dead. Yakou performed the said ritual in order to reincarnate himself in the present life. Though not proven, it was believed that his spirit now resides in the heir of the Tsuchimikado family, Natsume. There is one problem though. Natsume is a girl. And everyone knows that the next Tsuchimikado head is a male. If you like the master — shikigami dynamic, then this will be a good pick.

Fantasy tales set in modern day Japan are certainly nothing new, we have a good five if not more that befits this genre airing this season and Tokyo Ravens is one of them. The main character is a high-school kid called Harutora who has the right to become the next Onmyo Mage of his family. We also meet a few of his friends, most importantly the cute girl Hokuto. Hokuto is a energetic girl who obviously have a small crush on Harutora because Anime and plays around with him in various different ways throughout the episode.

In fact, it reminds me so much of "Ao No Exorcist", its not even funny. It reminds me a lot about it, but that doesn't necessarily mean its better. There are some questionable routes which the series takes, and there surprisingly isn't a lot of character development for a 24 episode anime. Sexy Kyouko is sexy, too bad we don't really see too much of her. The 1st opening theme is "X-Encounter" by Maon Kurosaki, and what do you know, it's effin fantastic. Not that I expected anything less from Maon, since she has always had amazing songs in her discography, and the fact that she juggles her work from Altima is even more amazing. Its very similar to early Mami kawada songs used in the "To Aru Majutsu No Index" series, it gives off that feel of mystery, awesomeness and sexy techno.
