Beastars finds the Cherryton Academy in a most precarious position in Vol. Following Legoshi being haunted by the death of the alpaca Tem, he becomes torn as his feelings for the dwarf rabbi, Haru start clouding his judgement even more. He wants to be strong but he feels that if he gives into his carnivorous ways, he'll endanger everyone around. But as this volume, which collects Chapters 53 to 61, ensues, it's clear everyone in Legoshi's inner circle are all on paths that don't seem to have much light at the end of the tunnel.
Here, all the academies meet in a secret cabal to determine who will go up to be the next Beastar. Apparently, this animal is turned into a celebrity in terms of art, science and politics, so all the schools want their best going forward. Cherryton, though, is reeling from the loss of Louis, the red deer.
In addition, the arrival of the arrogant goat Pina shakes up Legoshi's drama club. He's a perfect replacement for Louis, but the carnivores don't take well to him at all.
It seems Pina also has ulterior motives and is indeed putting on a very good act. Louis returns to school, but drops out right after, looking to make a career after killing the boss of the Lions aka the Shishigumi. It was done to protect Legoshi and Haru.
Now it turns out he's leading the Lions because, as a herbivore, he can bring more people to the Black Market. The Lions know this will get more carnivores coming, and thus trade will do better. This means they can collect more taxes, which is why Ibuki is doing everything to ensure Legoshi remains healthy.
He even brings him salads as he knows the deer can't stomach meat, as he wants him ready to take on rival gangs such as the Foxes, Lizards and Jaguars.
More so, Ibuki is like a father-figure, making sure the other Lions don't betray Louis. After being rejected by Legoshi, Juno seeks out Louis at his gang's lair and they go on something similar to a date. She can tell Louis is faking his gangster ways and has bigger plans, though. We're not sure if he'll turn on the Lions but right now, he wants power, control and to be a winner.
Still, he's harboring a deep angst and Juno can pick up on it. The Lions feed his ego, but Juno sees through it all, realizing he's really scared on the inside. She leaves him in frustration, after a moonlit dance in the streets. However, when he looks at her with a glint in his eye, it seems she and Louis are indeed sparking up something as they sense a kindred spirit in each other.
Legoshi has been avoiding Haru since they slept together, albeit they didn't have sex. But after some ribbing from his friends, he decides to embrace his love for her and kiss her. Unfortunately, he can't commit to the first kiss and makes up an excuse to keep his distance from Haru. He questions if she still has feelings for Louis and while she doesn't, he's cool with believing otherwise and breaking up. Haru just can't catch a break with him and it appears she's given up hope, fed up of trying to disarm Legoshi and prove she truly cares for him.
Leogshi has been stalked by the snake security guard Rokume, who is angry he let Tem die on his watch. Rokume is also obsessed with Legoshi being an alpha wolf so they work together to try to solve the case, not knowing the school will send this person up as a Beastar.
This leads to a mysterious, shadowy figure attacking and pummelling Legoshi, though, but he bites into the person's face, making this his first kiss. Sadly, the culprit gets away and Legoshi's left nursing his wounds, wondering if he's truly as strong as everyone perceives him to be. Legoshi tells his pal Jack to make an excuse up for him as he's leaving the school. Jack's heartbroken because they're such good friends, but Legoshi has a bigger plan in mind.
He runs away to the market and there, he meets the panda, Gouhin. This war vet helped him rescue Haru from the Lions and now, Legoshi agrees to train under him to bring out his true strength.
Once he's embraced this carnivore, he thinks he can solve Tem's murder and possibly embark on a future with Haru. But as Gouhin says at the end of the volume, the road to success won't be an easy one. Read Next in anime.
ADVANCED REVIEW: ‘Beastars,’ Volume 7
Beastars , the hit Netflix Original Anime that aimed to turn every weeb into a furry, adapted chapters of the manga of the same name from mangaka Paru Itagaki. While Volume 7 begins at chapter 53, it also features the last scene the anime which makes it a perfect entry point for anime fans. A little bit of action and a little bit of high school romance, the series is focused on Legoshi, a grey wolf and student at the prestigious Cherryton Academy, and his relationships with both the other predators and prey. Last volume, the most likely candidate for the title of Beastar a hero destined to lead in a society naturally rife with mistrust who is chosen by the Council of Living Beings, Louis, withdrew from school and renounced his title. Additionally, Itagaki takes us into the Black Market and we get to see Louis applying his power in a situation and earning the respect and fealty of the Lions in his charge. But, even in his power, the red dear still feels incredibly vulnerable. While we get to see Legoshi fight back in Beastars Volume 7 we also get to see his softer sides, his thoughtful side, and his loving one as his friends poke fun at his virginity despite spending the night with Haru.
