Dolby Atmos is one of the absolute best ways to experience surround sound, both at home and in movie theaters. We also dive a little on the Atmos format itself here, with a few important things to consider when readying your living room and subscription plans for Atmos sound. When it comes to delivering the maximum surround sound experience, action movies are a go-to for many audiophiles, and for good reason. Which brings us to Nobody : A Bob Odenkirk action-vehicle that pits the everyman with a secret military past against hordes of vicious baddies. The audio is rich, loud, and detailed to the max, with it all landing perfectly. Dialogue and music receive plenty of attention and articulation in the mix-space, too.

'Rio': A Chaotic Carnival, And Largely For The Birds

It favours kaiju battles over contrived pop-culture references, but it also talks about generational pain and the cycles of violence that often cause it. Karl Urban voices Jacob Holland, a swashbuckling hero who is outcast by his pirate crew after befriending an orphan girl named Maisie, voiced by newcomer Zaris-Angel Hator. Or so everybody has been told. He slicks across the deck with about as much ease as Urban swinging in and out of his native New Zealand accent and the cockney cadence of Billy the Butcher from The Boys.

Like Peter Quill from the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, Jacob was taken in by the pirates as a lost child. And like those films, The Sea Beast also flirts with themes of found family, first after Jacob is accepted by the pirates as one of their own, and then years later, when he embraces his paternal side on his adventures with Maisie.

Which is remarkable, considering just how passionately it rages against the rigours of tradition. Maisie is, in many ways, the parallel protagonist of the film, which smarty avoids falling into the Dangal trap and allows the young girl to be the master of her own destiny, the captain of her own fate.

The action, however, is staged with imagination, and whatever the film lacks in detail, it more than makes up for with its inventive creature designs. Particularly memorable is a mid-movie sequence in which a stranded Maisie and Jacob escape from a horde of balloon-looking baby monsters on a pink beach.

A Film Review: WALL-E

The Italian film director Marco Bellocchio, born in November, , is still going strong. Bellocchio is in attendance, together with a roster of his relatives, including his four surviving siblings: Letizia, Piergiorgio, Maria Luisa, and Alberto. The principal protagonist of the documentary, Camillo, is conspicuous by his absence from the feast. Like many documentarians, Bellocchio is alive to the potency of old photographs, as they stop the flow of imagery in its tracks. What we get, instead, is a scattering of circumstantial clues.

Set in a time resembling Medieval Europe, the film follows a young orphan named Maisie Zaris-Angel Hator , who stows away on the ship of the famous sea-monster hunter Captain Crow Jared Harris. She soon finds a father figure in first mate Jacob Holland Karl Urban as they sail into uncharted waters to pursue the legendary red Sea Beast. The characters are rendered with round strokes compared to the sharp lines of anime. The spell is only broken twice. Even if the creature waits to breath above water, some residual water would splash inside, no? Beneath the action is a deceptively deep social commentary painting the king and queen as tyrants stoking a fear of sea monsters to control the peasants. Lee were deeply flawed. Given how revered Disney 's " Pinocchio " is today, it's hard to believe it was a flop when it was first released exactly three quarters of a century ago. Upon its New York City premiere, on February 7, , critics hailed the film as a masterpiece, and even to this day, many prefer it to Disney's pioneering first animated feature, 's "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Today, of course, the legacy of "Pinocchio" is inescapable. Everyone's image of the puppet-boy with the nose that grows when he lies comes not from Carlo Collodi's original novel but from the kid with the Tyrolean hat and the Mickey Mouse gloves, as drawn by Disney animators. Still, as indelibly as "Pinocchio" has been imprinted on your memory, there may be plenty you don't know about the film, from who voiced the characters to the technical breakthroughs behind it to the unusual lawsuit threatened by the author's nephew.

‘Perfect Blue’ Review

Scott Tobias. On the run in Rio, they team up with a local toucan George Lopez. With the least successful of its movies still making over a quarter-billion dollars worldwide, Blue Sky has no impetus to change things up. It's already struck oil and seems content to stop digging. Made strictly in that house style, Rio at least boasts a setting that complements Blue Sky's tendency to render its pictures in crisp, retina-searing colors: The jungles, mountains and beaches of Brazil pop with lush greens and radiant blues, and the film's tropical-bird heroes come together in such an array of beautiful patterns that the film dedicates two full musical numbers to their synchronized couplings.

Review: ‘The Sea Beast’ is a high-seas animated adventure with surprising depth

The original game introduced a fascinating alternate reality scenario where Superman snaps and becomes the tyrannical ruler of Earth, forcing Batman to spearhead an underground resistance. That premise has been greatly expanded upon through DC's many Injustice prequel comics and the sequel game. It's totally unsurprising to see the franchise expand into the animated movie realm. What is surprising, however, is how poorly that winning premise fares in the transition. The fact that the film avoids reusing the voice cast from the games should clue you into the fact that this is an adaptation, not an extension of that same continuity.

Paramount's limp, animated remake actually triggers new stereotypes in the service of trying to expose racism for a pre-teen audience. The.

July 12, By: Matt Wright 9 comments so far. Everything I enjoyed about season 1 was here in this next season, including the continuation of the USS Titan and the Pakled threat storylines. Plus, there are bigger set pieces, more deep cut Trek references we get to see cetacean ops! Season 2 steps it up with a visit from Tom Paris himself, Robert Duncan McNeill, an update on how Sonya Gomez fared after her time on the Enterprise-D she made captain , and the arrival of Trek all-star Jeffery Combs as the voice of a very devious computer.

You're never really too old to watch cartoons, but sadly the window of time when your kids will snuggle next to you on the couch and watch one with you is shorter than you might think. Before they move on to bigger and louder blockbusters , make sure to add these best animated movies to your to-watch list. But there are also greats from smaller studios, too. Stop-motion animation, in particular, is an area with a lot of experimentation; if your kids like things to be slightly odd or creepy, the stop-motion animated films use their dollhouse qualities to tell slightly scarier stories.

WALL-E , a computer-animated science fiction film by Pixar set in the distant future, takes place in a world that has become engulfed by trash due to decades of mass consumerism, and as a result the planet has become inhabitable and humans have been evacuated to live in space.
