The Writer of DRAGONBALL EVOLUTION Offers an Apology to Fans for That Terrible Film
Album running time Brian Tyler doesn't seem to work on too many films that many people regard as being particularly good, which is unfortunate, given his undoubted talent; but that's an affliction which has hit many excellent film composers over the years, so he is not alone. I've been critical of some of his recent scores when he has stayed firmly within his comfort zone; and that's very much the case again here. But this one is more consistently entertaining than some of the overlong albums of the recent past and hearkens back to his superior early action scores like Timeline his finest effort. Indeed, Dragonball: Evolution - the curiously-named film is an adaptation of a Manga comic - plays like an amalgamation of Timeline and two distinct Danny Elfman styles - that of Batman and that of Spiderman.

Bored watching. This is a great DVD to go for on a dull winters day. It may not follow the comic or cartoon series exactly, but it still looks like and feels like Dragonball and has most of the usual favourate characters. Even the younger looking Master Roshi character has the same qualities as the original. As an added bonus you can also download the film onto your iPod using a code provided in the box.

I did see a few episodes of Dragon Ball Z about eight years ago, and it very nearly put me off anime for life. While this does figure into the plot—eventually—the one look we get of baby Goku shows a mysteriously Asian infant. Not surprisingly, Goku has been forbidden to go all Bruce Lee on their asses and suffers much indignity. To this end, he destroys small towns and causes a house to fall in on Gramps Gohan, despite the fact that the old boy already passed his ball on to Goku. Piccolo is just kind of rude that way. Their mission, of course, is to collect the balls in question before Piccolo does. When the balls are assembled, it seems, you can summon a dragon that will grant any wish. Wong

The giddy, anything-goes spirit of Japanese manga comics and Hong Kong martial arts flicks animates "Dragonball Evolution. You may, however, end up hating Justin Chatwin, the smirking something pretty boy who stars as Goku. Goku is supposed to be a shy high-school kid who comes of age as a hero by story's end. If they'd cast someone more sympathetic and believably teenlike in the role - Jesse Eisenberg, say, or even Shia LaBeouf - then "Dragonball Evolution" might have been more than just tolerable.

There are some signs a movie is going to be bad. When it comes to properties being adapted to the screen, one of the biggest red flags is when the picture opens with long-winded narration explaining something that happened two thousand years prior. Dragonball Evolution spends its opening moments moving us through a digital mural of images of our villains and explaining what happened back then.
I consider, what is it - error.
