While these films have ascended to global and cross-generation recognition, they have received their fair share of criticism. Many of these films have been criticized for telling the stories of racialized communities without casting voice actors from those communities for the leading roles. While maybe typical industry practice for the 90s and 00s, it no longer feels acceptable in this age of OscarsSoWhite and ChangeHollywood for this lack of so-called production staff representation. Following these social movements and the rising global popularity of Asian films and media, there has been much buzz of anticipation around Raya and the Last Dragon. We are sad to report, however, that our high expectations for the film were unfortunately not met. Throughout the movie, people, animals, clothing, items, architecture, and even the changing natural environments are filled with vivid colour and texture.

How Raya and the Last Dragon Became the First Disney Movie Made at Home
Remember those "How to Train Your Dragon" movies? I won't sit here and try to convince anyone that they were the pinnacle of animated storytelling or anything, but the first movie came out of nowhere in and proved to be charming and successful enough to spawn its own trilogy of dragon-rider films set hundreds of years ago in a mystical Viking land. The two sequels, released in and , ended up bringing the surprisingly satisfying journey of Hiccup voiced by Jay Baruchel and his adorable dragon friend Toothless to a close along with a little bit of angst surrounding the suddenly-hot version of Hiccup in the last movie, to boot. They were nice and entertaining and told a story from beginning to end
Wish Dragon – 2021 Animation Movie
Raya and the Last Dragon is a wonderful movie. The story zips by at a breathless pace, the action comes thick and fast, while the emotional climax rounds everything out with a neat little origami bow. While that may sound bizarre, the execution is actually pretty good and the story is intentionally segmented into different parts of this mission to keep the pacing as tight as possible. Our adventure takes place in a realm known as Kumandra, where dragon and human live harmoniously together. Following an attack by the evil Druun, the dragon sacrifice themselves to save the world, leaving humanity to point fingers at each other. Skip forward hundreds of years and the world has never been more divided. In fact, these divisions manifest themselves into five distinct clans each notably named after parts of a dragon. Unfortunately this peace is shattered when a dramatic event leads to the Druun returning and threatening to destroy life in Kumandra. In fact, a good chunk of this movie is chock full of exposition that grinds the story to a halt. At times it almost overpowers the enjoyment of the picture.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero continues its box office domination in Japan, surpassing an impressive milestone, but is still not living up to its predecessor. While these are impressive numbers, Super Hero is performing below the numbers set by the previous movie in the franchise, Dragon Ball Super: Broly, which reboots the origin story and introduction of the titular green-haired Super Saiyan from the original film, Dragon Ball Z: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan. While series protagonist Goku does appear in the movie, the narrative predominantly focuses on the master-student relationship between Piccolo and Gohan and sees the half-Saiyan fighting to protect his daughter, Pan. The film premiered in theaters in Japan on June 11 and spoilers quickly appeared online, showcasing a new power-up for one of the main characters and the plot's final, twist villain. Moreover, a list of songs from Super Hero 's soundtrack was released, providing insight into several story details and confirming the appearance of the wish-granted dragon Shenron.
