As a child, Daisuke seemingly led a happy life, living with his mother, Sayuri Kambe , and father, Shigemaru Kambe. Both of his parents were physicists at the Third Laboratory, and Shigemaru was known for his work in advocating for energy using imaginary numbers.

Some time during his childhood, Daisuke overheard his parents arguing over Shigemaru's research of adollium. This dispute eventually escalated to the point where Sayuri left the Kambe family home and instead opted to live alone. Shigemaru was outraged over his wife's actions, however he still wanted to reconcile with her.

Kikuko Kambe , Daisuke's grandmother and Shigemaru's mother, decided that Sayuri's knowledge on adollium was too much of a threat and ordered Jiro Hattori , the family butler, to silence her.

That same stormy night, Shigemaru went to visit Sayuri in her apartment and witnessed the aftermath of her murder by Jiro, horrified at the sight. A hiding Daisuke saw his father standing over his mother's body and mistakenly assumed he was her killer. After the death of Sayuri, Shigemaru presumably committed suicide.

Daisuke confronted Kikuko and she confirmed that both his mother and father were no longer alive. A dismayed Daisuke tried to deny the fact, and ran away while calling Kikuko's words lies.

Daisuke makes his first appearance playing the piano and narrating. He says that he had a mother, father, and believes he had a happy childhood, leading up a certain day where everything changed. His life after that became uninteresting and hollow.

The scenery changes and a women puts a glass of champagne on his seat armrest. The lighting changes so darkness completely shadows his face as he opens the window of the private jet he's in, overlooking Japan. His plane lands, and a red carpet is rolled out for him, from the jet to a black car. He exits, introducing himself as Kambe Daisuke. Daisuke makes his next appearance driving the black car, and there is a brief moment where he and Haru Kato pass each other on the road.

He's sitting in the superintendent's office, turning down the offer to join the First or Second Investigation Division in favor of his requested division. When the superintendent offers him a cigarette, he declines, opening up a leather pouch to reveal his own tobacco cigars.

When the superintendent picks up the phone and eagerly asks about the bombs whereabouts, Daisuke forms a small frown. At the Classic Car Festival, a black sleek car begins to knock other cars out of the way. Haru spots a mother and her son in the path of the rampaging car and quickly goes to shield them.

However just before the car could hit, it suddenly swerved to the left and crashed into a street pole. Haru quickly opens the door to the car when a cloud of smoke hits him in the face. Daisuke gets out of the car, pulling out his police badge, and introduces himself as the newly appointed inspector of the Metropolitan Police Detective Division. Ignoring Haru's questions, Daisuke goes to look over the cars in the festival.

Smacking his hand on a navy blue AC Cobra, he leans down to check under it, observing that it was already tuned up. He then informs the driver to get out, as the car would be purchased by the Metropolitan Police.

When the man laughs and insults him, Daisuke forcefully throws him out of the car. When the man asks for his translator to call the police, Daisuke puts on his glasses, and says in Arabic that he was looking at the police right now. He tells the prince to keep the change, and revs up the engine to the car. Daisuke drives off, leaving smoke in his wake. He continues to ignore Haru, who was running alongside the car and jumps in just as Daisuke sped up. Daisuke swerves between lanes, dodging cars to catch up to the perp.

Once again, Daisuke ignores Haru's questions, until he asks how he's going to take responsibility for his scheme. Daisuke contacts HEUSC through his earring, telling them to identify all individuals, vehicles, and buildings involved and send double the damage costs as reimbursements. Haru asks who he's talking to, and Daisuke responds that he's speaking to his butler.

He notes that there are only 10 minutes until noon. Robbers Yoko and Hiroshi begin to back up the van when the bridge starts to lift up, however they hear a thud and look back to see Daisuke, using the AC Cobra to drive the van towards the end of the bridge.

He reveals his plan to Haru, saying that he was going to toss the van into the river. He directs the van towards the side of the bridge when Haru sees Yoko, panicing in the car, unable to escape. However Daisuke continues to smirk and drive the two cars towards the river. He loses the smirk when Haru jumps out of the car and takes control of the steering wheel.

After the explosion, Daisuke parks the AC Cobra so the front wheels hang over the end of the bridge. Getting out of the car, he puts one hand in his pant pocket, staring at Haru, who was holding on to end of the bridge. Daisuke smirks once more as Haru's grip falters and Haru takes a plunge into the river below. The chief, Yukihiro Kiyomizu , enthusiastically introduces him to the rest of the task force, saying he was of the famous Kambe family and went through special training in England.

Haru later confronts Daisuke at the helicopter pad on the roof. Daisuke puts down his cigar and turns to Haru, asking how much he wanted him to pay. He holds out his hand, and she pours one in. Daisuke, chewing the gummy, and Mahoro watch, mildly interested in the commotion Shinnosuke Kamei and Haru were making. Haru heads out to attend the Stop Shoplifting Campaign but turns around, annoyed that Daisuke had tagged along behind him. Daisuke, unfazed, still asks Haru to take him to the scene.

That night the two leave the campaign, Daisuke carrying two bags, when Haru stops to watch two amateurish comedians on the street. Haru tells him to go on ahead, since he recognizes the desperation to survive in the comedians. Haru tells Daisuke that by giving them money he just got rid of their willingness to work, but Daisuke ignores him to confront the two comedians about their use of the drug, mescaline. The next day, Daisuke is interrogating the comedian, Yamada Keiichi. He crosses his arms together and leans back into his chair, offering to buy the information off of Yamada, who begins to aggressively defend his partner.

Behind him, Yamada excitedly exclaims that the money had already been transferred to his account. He explains to Daisuke that he started to dedicate his life to helping Haru. While waiting for the suspect, Yuta Isezaki , to exit a building, Daisuke tries instant ramen for the first time Haru silently judges him. The trio start to follow Isezaki as he spends the nights with various models from the company, Millennium Entertainment.

Daisuke does not respond when Haru asks how he knows this. In a stakeout montage, Daisuke is seen treating Akira to Kambe branded deluxe instant ramen. When Haru finds himself at the front doorstep of a lavish restaurant, Daisuke drives up behind him. They enter an elevator heading for the bottom floor, and Haru tells Daisuke about his speculations on the case, however Daisuke only shows mild interest when he brings up a black-haired woman he suspects is a liaison for the Gondawara-gumi crime organization.

The same woman Haru was talking about, was actually repairing an armored vehicle in the ultramodern room they had just entered. The woman goes to greet them, introducing herself as Suzue Kambe. Daisuke gives Haru a second to connect the dots that he had actually followed Suzue to his mansion home.

Suzue briefs Haru and Daisuke on her investigation. The leader of the Gondawara-gumi group, Mikio Umezu , will be hosting a drug party, and Daisuke tells Haru that he plans to use about 2 billion yen to arrest Umezu and take down the whole crime organization. Haru gets fed up with how Daisuke relies on his wealth, and declares that they should go their separate ways for the case. Daisuke looks unimpressed as he storms off. Suzue ponders for a moment, then excitedly waves Daisuke over to show off her handiworks, to which Daisuke smirks at.

Haru and Akira are trapped on the roof of The Tower where the drug party is taking place. Their pursuers had just made it through the barred doors and cornered them when an attack helicopter takes away their attention. Projectiles shoot through the roof of The Tower and start to release a poison gas which knocks everyone out, including Haru, Gondawara-gumi subordinates, and models from Millennium Entertainment.

In return, Daisuke asks why Haru decided to become a cop, and he responds that he did it to catch criminals, and not just by throwing money at his problems. During a siege, Haru had accidently fired at the target and seriously injured them. Haru grabs him by the collar, but eventually lets him go when his anger fizzles out. While making tea for Haru, Kikuko asks Daisuke how work is. Impassive, he responds that there has been nothing noteworthy.

When Haru sheepishly admits that the differing financial viewpoints between coworkers often creates chaos on the scene, Daisuke glares at him before his grandmother begins to reprimand him. Teasing him, Haru reminds him not to cause any trouble for other coworkers. Daisuke accelerates the car in response. After Haru is sent away from the stand-off in the shinkansen by members of Division I, Daisuke surprises him by showing up in the Shinagawa station, there to pick him up and assist in arresting the perp.

Sitting in his parked car, Daisuke shows no intention of driving until informing Haru that this is exactly the time he would appreciate some coaching. Listening in, they learn that one of the women collapsed on the ground and is assumed to have been shot. Haru, seeing the SAT already making their move towards the train, yells at Daisuke to stop the car. Outside, Daisuke launches his grappling hook and lands on top of a building effortlessly, leaving Haru behind.

He frowns when Haru is unceremoniously hurled upwards by his own grapple. Hiding behind a wall in the railway, Haru states that the moment they go towards the train, they will be the ones arrested. Katsuhiro replies that the perp is obviously enjoying the stand-off, and is in no mental position to be negotiated with.

Unsatisfied, Haru argues that the boy he met on the train was not like that. Ryo Hoshino cuts in, reminding Haru that he had no right to be an officer and informing him that perp is streaming the hostage situation on Chaintube as they speak. Daisuke, who was also listening in, tells HEUSC to pull up the footage, and a projection of the livestream is casted out of his watch. The two rush past the SAT guarding the train, and jump onto the front of the shinkansen.

To help account for the new world of vehicle manufacturing, Frank DuBois, an associate professor at the American University Kogod School of Business, has developed a formula to index just how American a car or truck is. After DuBois ran the numbers on vehicles for his report, the following 10 emerged as the most American cars and trucks sold today.
