Midori Shoujo Tsubaki. This is an awesome anime adaptation of a manga that was created by Suehiro Maruo Mr. The protagonist is actually based off an old character trope known as The Camellia Girl. After becoming orphaned, and seeking help from a stranger she had previously met, Midori is forced to be a servant in a carnival freakshow.

The film was single handedly created by Hiroshi Harada. Given the subject matter, Harada had found it impossible to gain sponsors.

You can search all you like but you will never find an anime movie like Midori — Shoujo Tsubaki , a bizarre theatrical experience reserved only for the most sadistic and daring viewers. Interesting trivias aside, this is not the most important part about the movie. The movie is actually an adaptation of an ero manga Mr. Truly fearsome is its artistry in that we are drawn to the visuals despite their banal nature, making it harder for us to dismiss it as another freakish Japanese porn. Midori: Shoujo Tsubaki is a Japanese independent ero guro horror film by Hiroshi Harada, based on Suehiro Maruo's comic version of the kamishibai standard. The film, which Harada scripted and directed under the pseudonym of Hisaaki Etsu and whom he presents as a lost filmmaker he worked on it under, consists primarily of paintings and cels of drawings by Harada held, panned or zoomed over with music, sound effects and voice acting and occasional touches of traditional animation. It follows the misadventures of a girl called Midori who, after losing her mother, joins a funfair freak show. She is harassed, abused and humiliated by everyone else in the show until the appearance of a dwarf magician-hypnotist. The film was single-handedly created by Hiroshi Harada. Given the subject matter, Harada had found it impossible to gain sponsors. He then used all of his life savings to make the film over a five-year period. Like her European equivalent, the Shoujo Tsubaki was typically a lower class innocent who finds herself first thrown into the degrading profession of selling flowers on the street and then cast down even further by being sold to a travelling freakshow revue. This particular version of the story is best known thanks to the infamous ero-guro manga by Suehiro Maruo, Mr. Fourteen year old Midori Risa Nakamura narrates the tale as she suffers at the hands of the freaks and performers who form the community she has become a less than willing member of. Her biggest problem is the effeminate gay showman, Kanabun Takeru , who actively enjoys tormenting her even going so far as to kick her pet puppies to death and feed them to her in a stew.
