A Family Movie night is a great way to come together as a family, watch a good movie and share some popcorn. We try to mix it up each week, cycling through different genres and decades. It is interesting to watch how Sunshine and Striker react to the movies of my own childhood, whilst also providing some great discussion points.
Watching well-picked movies to watch with kids can create the perfect evening. To help you find the perfect family movie we have compiled the best non-animated movies to watch with kids.

Goonies and Star Wars continue to be my favourites, whilst the kids lean towards more modern movies. Please check the ratings — the movies I have listed are suitable for my kids, but I suggest watching the previews so you can ascertain if you agree.

There are a lot of animated movies. There are also a lot of live-action movies. On occasion, though, those worlds collide. In that classic peanut butter cup style, we get animation in our live-action. Among the movies that mix these two mediums, these are some of the most noteworthy, as well as some of our favorites. We tried to focus primarily on movies where animation and live-action truly mix, not merely live-action films with an animated sequence. If the animated section is notable enough, though, we considered it for the list as well. Hey, stop-motion animation is very much animation.

This list will not take a conventional take on s animation films; rather, it has attempted to seek out movies that for better or worse have somewhat been left out of the mainstream radar, or have been forgotten and left unmentioned. This is not because they are not good movies; indeed, many of them have won international prizes and were presented at Cannes or even considered for an Oscar. Rather, they have been difficult movies, hard to understand or define. A careful reader will notice a golden thread connecting the Hungarian Animation school that has contributed to three of the titles, proving its importance on the international scale it is worth mentioning that while writing this list, acclaimed director Marcell Jankovics has passed away. Also, it has been attempted to vary the countries of production and not concentrating strictly on US and Japan-based films, though it has been done with quite ease and in respect of quality.
