What did jormungand say god of war

How God of War hides its big story reveals in plain sight was first published on May 11, God of War is a game of many triumphs. It has satisfying combat, and a world big enough to encourage exploration that somehow never overstays its welcome. Underlining it all is a coherent story with a clear beginning, middle, and end. But one thing you may not notice in your first playthrough is how so much foreshadowing there is of major plot points.

(Spoilers) Who I Think the World Serpent Really Is

So enormous is he that his body forms a circle around the entirety of Midgard. The god Thor is his particular enemy. Two battles between them are recounted in the Eddas. In one, Thor fishes for Jormungand , and fails to pull him up only when the giant Hymir, terrified that this will bring about Ragnarok , severs the line, sending the snake back down to the depths.

When Ragnarok does arrive, however, Thor and the Midgard Serpent are fated to slay each other. Jormungand likely already featured in the religion of the original Germanic tribes, as evidenced by his existence in the later pre-Christian religions of different branches of the Germanic peoples.

For example, continental Germans attributed earthquakes to his movements well into the Middle Ages. Looking for more great information on Norse mythology and religion? New God Of War Logo and its runes explained : : Is It Hiding Something?

Anybody who has even a cursory knowledge of the God of War franchise knows that Kratos is basically the end of the world personified. Or, at least, kick one off? First of all, what is Ragnarok? It is the end of the world in Norse mythology. Long story super short: Almost all of the gods die in a massive war, and the whole world sinks into the water. So, the humans and gods that have survived go into a much brighter future.

God of War: Ragnarok can pass the baton of Kratos to Atreus

This article contains lore based on real-life sources from Norse mythology as introduced from the God of War Norse era. He becomes an ally of Kratos and Atreus after the pair awaken him from deep slumber within the Lake of Nine. The serpent grew so large that it was able to surround the earth and grasp its own tail. As a result, it received the name of the Midgard Serpent or World Serpent. Jormungandr will be slain by Thor, who will then take nine steps away before succumbing to the serpent's Eitr poison that it had been spewing in the air during the battle. According to Freya , the Serpent mysteriously appeared one day in the Lake of Nine. At one point, he had a battle with Thor that could be felt across all the Nine Realms , ending in a stalemate. He has remained in the lake ever since, growing so large he's able to encircle all of Midgard.

what did jormungand say god of war

We might know that in the battle of Ragnarok, Thor and Jormungandr were destined to kill each other. But the question was why Thor and Jormungandr hated each other. The first reason we have to consider is the origins of them both. Thor came from the god tribe for he was the son of Odin the Allfather whom probably all of the giants hated the most in Norse Pantheon.

The son of Odin and Jord, the earth goddess. Thor was the strongest of the Aesir, the collective name for the the principal race of Norse gods; they who lived in Asgard, and with the All-Father Odin, ruled the lives of mortal men.

Thor - Norse God of Thunder

Jump to navigation. I have not heard it spoken of before. First will come the Fimbulvetr [Extreme Winter]. Snow will drive in from all directions; the cold will be severe, and the winds will be fierce. The sun will be of no use.

“What?” said Thor “You want me—the great and mighty Thor—to dress up as a girl? Why, you rogue!” Thor reached out for Loki He was eager to grab him Tyr, the god.

The World Serpent

There's something incredibly magical about the latest God of War. Kratos's world feels like a rich tapestry woven from various strands of ancient mythologies; a complex re-imagining of stories and history that has resulted in the creation of a mysterious Nordic world. This sort of depth can only be achieved through careful research and design, and Santa Monica has rightly received a great deal of attention for its clever use of mythology to write the game's lore. On the surface, God of War's runes may seem merely decorative, but a closer inspection reveals the game features a working runic system all of its own.

Why Thor and Jormungandr Hated Each Other?

The world of Norse mythology is full of terrifying monsters , but perhaps none more so than Jormungandr, also known as the Midgard Serpent. Maybe it is his proximity to the world of men, dwelling in the ocean that surrounds Midgard home of human , or maybe it is our innate fear of serpents, but no other monster raises the same fear as this serpent who will trigger Ragnarok , the end of the world in Norse mythology. Jormungandr was brother to two further children of the giant couple, the giant wolf Fenrir , and the giantess Hel. Odin was so fearful of the havoc that these beings might cause on the universe that he placed each of them somewhere that they could cause the least harm. He sent Hel to the underworld to reign over the land of the dead.

Having taken a few weeks to complete the campaign, I sit thinking of how to describe the experience. The game may have received rave reviews across the board, but was it truly as memorable, inspiring and wonderful as everyone says?

This is in the top ten spoilers in the game. And as we know Atreus is Loki. So we could assume that the World Serpent is the son of Atreus.
