Yep, there was actually a reason I was going back and watching Saekano. Saekano takes elements from a bunch of things I like Genshiken, Monogatari, TWGOK , but the overall package comes across as just way too lightly felt, scattershot, and indulgent to really drive at the humor and humanity any of those shows find in their weirdo characters. In recent years harem series have taken a dodge to this by having love interests that were fully content to either be a second woman or be part of an actual harem. For a while now Saekano has been taking a somewhat different approach to making it easy on Aki: Utaha and Eriri have tolerated Megumi because they understand and accept, however reluctantly, that she is essential for what Aki is trying to accomplish. The introduction of Izumi, though, has upset that delicate balance. We saw it some last episode when Megumi actually finally got perturbed about something because of her, and in this episode Aki gets blindsided when his enthusiasm for helping to promote Izumi's doujinshi at Comiket is taken as a slight by Eriri. Actually, that is more the last straw than a singular point of aggravation for Eriri. The first blow came earlier in the episode when Megumi, who decided to study an old dating sim familiar to both Aki and Eriri while they were working on finishing her doujinshi for Comiket , opted for what had long been Eriri's favorite path. Given some flashbacks at the beginning of the episode and Eriri's reaction to Megumi's choice, she clearly regarded it as an interference with what had once, for her, been an exclusive connection she had with Aki.

Dating sim games are all the rage in Japan. The alluring attraction of multiple routes and outcomes, the personalities of the characters and the feels that all come attached with them make for an interesting gaming experience. Sometimes fans will create their own fan faction known as doujinshi and make their own routes for their favorite characters. The show centers around Tomoya Aki, an otaku with a deep passion for creating the ultimate dating sim based on a chance occurrence with a girl he ran into.
First of all, apologies for the lack of coverage on this show. All of this extra work on top of her competition with Izumi for Winter Comiket has led to a lot of stress, and a slight slump. Thus, Eriri decides to lock herself away at her mansion in Nasu Kougen to finish the final illustrations for Cherry Blessing. Surprisingly, Utaha is worried about this creative slump that Eriri is having, and in particular is not very happy with the way the Tomoya is dealing with it. Just like in the case with her script, Tomoya is avoiding conflict with his creatives in order to keep the stauts quo. It was when Tomoya had pushed Utaha to change her script, that she finally respected him as a creative and a producer; but now here he is again, skirting around the issue of whether or not to be harsh on Eriri or not for not meeting her deadlines. We see that Eriri starts to devolve into grief as she cannot find the inspiration to draw with her signature touch, and she looks to Tomoya for comfort.
