The secret to success as an all-male idol group is homoerotic undertones. In think, deep down, we all knew this to be true. His outfit is really cool. I love the, um I know chilka is the antagonist but during his transformation scene and song I was mentally cheering "work bitch" for him the whole time. The outfit is cool and the song is so good.
The whole backstory didn't have that much depth to it though, like why did chilka still care for the human lady even though she threw him away like trash?
Why did she even act like that towards chilka anyways..? Why did the queen supposedly kill her? Hopefully I'll get more answers next week.
This was the episode I was most invested in, to the point where i didn't even realise the time pass by and the episode came to a close. Really looking forward to the finale. That woman made zero sense. For someone central to the story's plot and the one who kicked off the backstory, that human woman is somehow the worst written character in the show lmao. She really is badly written.
The writing in this show is either hit or miss, and this was such a huge miss tbh. I'm not hopeful for it but I think the only thing that can salvage that character is if she was sent by someone to bring down the Lux aces and the Queen or something.
Still utterly bizarre how bad that was though. Anyway after collecting myself, all I could think was I guessed correctly as far back as episode 6 that the ace who rebelled fell in love with a human woman and the Queen put a stop to it, but I was expecting it to be Betelgeuse, not Sirius.
I'll come out and say it: I don't like Sirius's backstory, nor do I like his portrayal in this episode when compared to the previous ones. Maybe it's my own fault for building up an image of past!
Sirius in my head, but I also don't think I was entirely unjustified for thinking he would've had a different characterization from I just feel kind of cheated, I suppose. The human woman who he fell in love with is also so I don't hate Chilka's new outfit, but I think it's a lot more generic looking than his prior design which leaves more to the imagination and is therefore hotter.
I love his song though, but I've been listening to it nonstop on Spotify so it's nothing new to me. I was also right about Bakkun and Kemomana being the creatures from the anime's first scene, but I was not expecting them to be deployed by Hojo—and speaking of, I was surprised by that transformation! I thought it was REALLY suspicious that we only ever saw human forms in the Queen's space when all flashbacks decidedly set in the fairy world were with fairy forms, but I really didn't think we'd go as far as getting a Hojo transformation.
I don't know how to feel about his transformation coming across as being more played for laughs than the the others'. We could've had a sexy old man, y'all. Though I do like the more "traditional" feel of his outfit. The worldbuilding we got in this episode is what I've been hoping for.
The fairy setting is one of my favorite things about this show and I really liked seeing the territories of the different clans. I will say though I loved the scene before the opening. That's the family content I wanted to see. They actually went and did the one piece of merch I hoped they would do.
I want Takara's and Homura's so badly lmao. The character song album officially released and is streaming on various services now! Hojo transformation. Actually, his fairy design and mannerisms are clearly based on kabuki actors, a traditional Japanese art. I personally like how they found the way to include that in the show instead of turning Houjo into another hot dude. Although I do agree that they could've worked a better design. I did think it was something theater based with the fans, makeup, and mannerisms but couldn't quite figure out what specifically.
Yeah I think they could've found a way to keep the kabuki reference with another design too. Wait, so Sirius and Betelgeuse weren't lovers, it all was just fanservice.
What a letdown. Did I get it right, Sirius wants to destroy human world because of a fangirl who'd dumped him? I will forever cherish laughing Uruu and boys' interaction in opening scene with curry. Also TUBO appered again lol. It seems like his beef is really with the queen, so why has he been so obsessed with Ranmaru?
Feels like you could just remove Ranmaru from the backstory and it would change pretty much nothing. Other than that, nice to see the fairies all hanging out, and Homura and Uruu getting along. While I do hate how liberally "queerbait" gets thrown around a lot when it comes to anime with an all male cast, it really did feel like queerbait here huh. Why am I not surprised. Not that the writing in this show has been that good to begin with, but this was probably the worst example of the show's bad writing.
I thought Chilka was an interesting villain at first, but now his character motivation all being because of that woman that dumped him and got killed by the queen??? It's so stupid. At least his song was good. This show really became a hot mess at the very end. It's so bad. And I can't even enjoy this show in a "so bad it's good" kinda way.
It's just bad. No clue how it's going to end in a satisfying way, it's gonna be a mess. The only final I'll accept is if they stop collecting affect and start to live on Earth while pretending to be humans.

But is this ecchi adventure actually worth your time, or is it just shallow fujoshi bait? Have you ever watched an anime that seemed like it was made for the sole purpose of getting chopped up into YouTube compilations? Still, if you can turn your brain off during the boring parts or just watch the YouTube compilations to save time , there are a few genuinely entertaining moments here. The OP and ED are undeniably catchy and their visuals are way better than they have any right to be - especially the lovingly painted shibari poses in the ending.
