Video games based on anime usually go one of two ways: they either try to emulate the anime as closely as possible, beat for beat, or they go their own way to offer something fresh. Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris. Exciting combat undermined by horrible pacing and inconsistent storytelling. By David Jagneaux Updated: 5 Nov pm. The premise leads to some clever fourth-wall breaking humor and lots of technical jargon with made up sci-fi terms. For the first third or so of the adventure it follows the anime storyline as a blueprint, although it unfortunately skips over many significant events and retcons several key plot points along the way that would have helped add necessary context in an attempt to make the lore more accessible. Instead, it feels incomplete. But even then in some other cases, though, prior knowledge could confuse you because Alicization Lycoris diverges so dramatically. I lost two hours of progress, which was positively blood-boiling. The decision to block off these two fundamental features for nearly 20 hours is baffling to me.

Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris as the next story in the franchise brings with it some fine-tuned changes to gameplay and twist on the main story. Unfortunately, each game in the series has always started with problems at launch and this generation is no different. Frame-rates nose-dive just about the entire game, but not bad enough that it's kept players from joining one another to take on Underworld and those that wish to defeat Kirito and his companions. Popular anime franchise Sword Art Online is collaborating with Japanese social media app Cluster to hose a series of virtual reality meetups this week to promote the currently airing Alicization: War of the Underworld season. Especially given concerns over the coronavirus pandemic and enforced social distancing measures, these virtual meetings sound like a safe, yet fitting, way for fans to engage with the franchise. Interested fans can watch the meetings through VR streaming service app Cluster and can stream through devices such as VR headsets, smartphones, and PCs. Each meeting will feature at least one Japanese voice actor from the anime as special guests. As an extra treat for anime fans, the voice actors will meet in a virtual world inspired by the RATH Console from the Alicization arc covered in the series third and fourth seasons. Images of the virtual space have been released online - and they look pretty accurate to their renderings from the anime!

Is there an anime more suited for video game adaptation than Sword Art Online? The game follows the story of Season 3 incredibly faithfully from the cutting down of a giant tree onwards but also adds plenty of new side stories that Sword Art Online veterans will appreciate as they go about their adventure. The world of Alicization Lycoris is utterly vast, with multiple open environments waiting to be explored.

The game will launch in North America and Europe on July The game follows the same basic storyline as the Sword Art Online novel volumes 9 through 18 and the Sword Art Online: Alicization anime. However, the game does not follow the same route as the Sword Art Online: Alicization — War of Underworld anime run that premiered last October. Instead, the game branches off at that point into its own game route.
