Come July, it was announced that the film would finally be released this summer on August 15th. From the moment the film starts, the tone is set and it is made clear the film will be a rollercoaster right up till the end. The film reached number 1 in the Japanese box office ranking during opening weekend. So just know that in some cases, what you read below is a bit oversimplified. Rin, Shirou, and all the other masters in the Holy Grail war all practice magecraft, not magic. The trick is that no path to the root can be used more than once. However, magic, once discovered, cannot be so easily lost—which leads us to the Third Magic. The Third Magic is capable of making the soul a physical thing that no longer needs a body. Zelretch is one of the main fixtures of the greater Fate multiverse and appears in—or is at least indirectly connected to—many of the stories therein.

What are my feelings on it? Well, one particular thing I have with Ufotable adaptations is that their work often veers close to perfection yet misses the mark ever so slightly. At the end of the day this is the best adaptation of the Fate franchise due to how it not only represents the source but elevates it. I will take this moment to state that this review will not be taking the more usual approach of talking vaguely about the anime in order to not spoil things for those looking for an opinion on it before starting. But if you want my opinion on whether you should watch this or not, well I am a Fate fanatic so of course I am going to tell you to watch it. They tried to condense down or add some of it to the last movie but the end result certainly has a weaker effect. There are a few moments of disconnected storytelling in this movie with that and Illya throwing out exposition about Avenger while the visuals show random shots of people around the town. In retrospect I feel it would have been better to show a visualisation of what Illya was talking about to better get the point across but instead we have a timely confused exposition scene. By god you were so close, even some minor edits to that fight could have made a world of difference. At least we got that I suppose but sometimes I wish she would indulge in a little more fanservice on the OST side.

Shirou Emiya has to figure out how to stop Shadow Sakura after she murdered Shinji. Shirou has decided to save Sakura over trying to save everyone else. Heaven's Feel was the darkest route of all three, but it also has a spectacular and well-earned happy ending; it's the second happiest besides the Fate route. The story ended very well; I loved the writing and the character motivations and how we learned more about everyone in the cast, not just Sakura. Everything came together in a solid ending. Ufotable is known for their amazing animation.

With a full promotional cycle for the film coming to a head with the planned release of the film on March 28th, ufotable and Aniplex were force to suddenly delay the film until April 25th at the very last minute. Then, they were forced to delay it again. The release of this film would be the first major anime film to be released in Japanese cinemas following the recent re-opening of the country following the lockdown that the country underwent in the hope of halting the spread of the disease. This was a major release for the company and even had a limited museum exhibit for the franchise tying into the release, alongside an almost-simultaneous US cinematic premiere.

The Fifth Holy Grail War in Fuyuki City has reached a turning point in which the lives of all participants are threatened as the hidden enemy finally reveals itself.
