Kokoro Connect (TV)

About the closest parallel would be Oreimo , I guess — though with the feeling you sometimes get that KC was built on an ancient burial ground who knows what might happen. If I were to try to sum up Kako Random , it would be the same as trying to sum up the entire series — a good idea executed indifferently.

Kokoro Connect has always been able to tickle the mind with interesting situations, promising more as the questions it poses are explored. As in too many cases, this one increasingly tended to break down into speechmaking, and I found the ultimate resolution almost comically absurd and anti-climactic. KC always walks a tightrope on the suspension of disbelief issue because of its tendency to rely on melodrama and highly unlikely soliloquies from 16 year-olds, so when things start to derail the whole operations can crash and burn pretty quickly.

I also have to seriously question the wisdom of physically centering the series around a character, then declining to tell us anything whatsoever about that character.

But apart from his messiah complex we have no idea why he has this effect on people. It has an impact — everyone has to change direction because of it — but it has no personality of its own. That sums up Taichi pretty well, and it absolutely mystifies me what Silver Link or the novelist, if this is the same there could possibly have been thinking in designing the character dynamics of this series. This last arc is a perfect summation of the problem.

Taichi finally does revert — for about 3 seconds, and to absolutely no purpose. What was the point? We also have the problem of Taichi spilling beans about Heartseed 2, which is does because Inaba is being her usual overbearing and obnoxious bully self. Nagase is certainly the closest thing to a sympathetic and likeable character in Kokoro Connect , and her problem is the most interesting one.

I find it rather heartbreaking that she worries that the decisions she made might have caused unhappiness for her mother and fathers, and regrets that she might have done things differently.

We get he all-too-common platitudes from the big three as Aoki and Yui are conveniently shoved aside for plot convenience — quite the fitting end for them about friendship and accepting yourself. If only real-life domestic abuse cases could be resolved so neatly and comedically. Ultimately though, you have to deliver results.

Aoki and Yui had a definable plot arc, at least, but they were largely plot devices, as Taichi was. It was really only Nagase that emerged as both a likeable and well-defined character, and she too tended to be manipulated for the contrivance of the plot far too often.

Until then I rank Kokoro Connect as an interesting failure. I couldn't agree more except for the inaba part, though I do think the execution of her arc sucks. The series almost entirely fails on execution, I'm a tad soft on the first arc because I got behind due to internet problems and was kind of spoiled on how it would end, but I liked that ending alot better than the ending of the second or third arcs, and TBH the ending wasn't even THAT great, it was just…'meh, ok'. I think the second arc had the worst execution while this one is in a similar boat, but Iori's mom just made my day so I'm biased.

It really is a shame to say but the series is severly flawed to the point where you can't deny the executions will stink, I too will be watching the next episodes when ever they come out, simply because I like the cast I don't dislike anyone really but my expectations will be dreadfully low. The worst thing for me was that, despite the title, I couldn't "connect" with any of the characters, they was more like actors interpreting their roles, and not even that good at acting.

Almost everything they said or did felt like forced for the sake of the plot, and Taichi out of them all, is just a place holder for a proper main character, as his personality was not actually explored. Like you, I'll be watching the remaining episodes with the little hope that they will alleviate some of the bad things, although I don't thing the whole show would rise its ranking from a mere "average".

That's a good summary for the series and for anyone that asks if this series was worth watching: "I couldn't 'connect' with any of the characters. It lacked originality, so I hoped the characters would fare better— it didn't. Not forgetting about the scandal, I doubt there will ever be a continuation.

I like your review, the show was missing that little extra to make a show that I would share to my friends. It had some really interesting points and situations that really made me want to watch more. Anyways, here's to hoping for a better ending with the remaining extra episodes! Enzo, you can't really blame Inaban for this fiasco.

She just asked to Taichi what he was hiding. How could she know that there was a second Heartseed who imposed an undisclosure agreement on Taichi? It's all the selfless freak's fault. He should have told them "I cannot speak for certain reasons, please trust me".

As for the show as a whole, while I agree that it didn't capitalize on its good premises, I still think that it's above average for this kind of series. I'd rather watch another season of KC than generic harem anime I think it's clear from Taichi and Inaba's behavior that she bullied and browbeat him into talking as usual. As someone who's shared his living space with cats for most of his life, when watching Inaba I'm reminded of a phrase that often seemed to fit the felines I grew up with: "Smart enough to get into trouble, not smart enough to get out".

Anyone who loves cats knows how clever they can be, and how that can get them into untenable positions. Inaba is smart, but she's not nearly as smart as she thinks she is. That and her belief that she has an inalienable right even responsibility to control every aspect of her friends' lives gets her into a lot of trouble.

There's three shows from the past year and a half that stand out to me just because people I know on AS namely you, Pocari, and Reckoner expressed considerable frustration and I very much didn't feel the same way. First was Hanasaku Iroha. Second was Tasogare Otome x Amnesia well, okay, I found some of the middle a little weak. Third is this. I'm not quite sure why this is the case and I don't really have the time these days to be digging around to find out.

That said, two factors I suspect are important are that 1 regardless of whether they pulled off the execution, this show is at least shooting for the vein exemplified by shows like EF and Ano Natsu de Matteru — in other words, far and away my favourite kind of anime — and b while I wouldn't call myself a white knight, I do get drawn into other people's problems quite easily.

Without going into too much detail… I understand why I do it, which I suspect is the reason I don't wonder too much why Taichi does it. I only just got around to watching this and I really have nothing to add… I think I enjoyed this show more than you, Enzo, but I by and large agree that it wasn't "all it could be".

But I did want to comment that it seems like they put Inaba and Taichi next to each other an awful lot. Writers shipping them long term? Also wanted to disagree in general principal with the above post regarding Tasogare Amnesia, which I quite enjoyed and in fact consider it much better than this show. My problem with Kokoro wasn't so much the characterization, though it certainly had it's problems.

My problem with it was that in all 3 arcs they introduced problems with potentially fascinating ramifications and then failed to do anything outside of the obvious with them.

It's like somebody spent all day deciding on the overall concepts and then spent 5 minutes coming up with the actual scenarios. All 3 arcs could have gone to far more interesting places than they ended up, and that for me is enough to relagate this show to third rate.

I feel like I'm rambling now so I'm almost done. Overall the summer season had a strange arc. Most of the shows looked like crap from the previews. Then I started watching them and thought that the season overall was much better than the previews implied.

Then they got to the last third of the season and everything started failing to execute so now I kinda feel like I've come full circle back to the beginning of the season where everything looked sucky.

Hopefully fall can do better. Eureka Seven: Astral Ocean — Sword Art Online — Guardian Enzo. Related posts. Digests , Reviews. Anime , Reviews. Anonymous September 29, at pm Reply. Kokoro Connect: Michi Random

When we learned that the final arc of Kokoro Connect was going to be cordoned off to be released at a later time, it left a sour taste in the mouths of us loyal fans here at the Glorio Blog. Poised to be one of our favorite shows of the year, the lack of conclusion made us have to reevaluate it at the breaking point, and ultimately label it incomplete and unsatisfying. Now that this last arc has been released, will it be everything we hoped for? As hinted by the last moments of episode 13 before it went off air, the final arc puts to rest the love triangle between Iori, Taichi, and Inaba which appeared in the arc. This really was the show in its prime. The writing was brilliant, the drama was intense, and the new phenomenon was absolutely dastardly.

Kokoro Connect - Episode List

Searching for products Introduction It goes without saying these days that if it can come out on Blu-ray, an anime will be released that way. There was a period a few years ago when MVM were transitioning to BD, that they were actually selective about what to release in HD, opting to release the shows that guaranteed returns. Typically that meant the shows that I was more interested in went without, as they were aimed more at the niche. Their homeroom teacher, Mr Goto is equally lackadaisical in his approach to his students. Then one morning Yui and Yoshifumi turn up to the club in a state of distress. It might be fun, for the first few minutes, but it quickly makes for some very awkward moments and a lot of explaining and apologising to do. It might be therapeutic, or it might just be the worst thing ever. Thirteen episodes of Kokoro Connect are presented across two discs from Hanabee, with the four episodes of the OVA on a third disc.

Kokoro Connect (Anime)

Kokoro Connect is a anime based on the volume light novel series of the same name. The story does a great job mixing supernatural shenanigans with your more typical anime high school drama. The story follows the five members of the Student Cultural Research Club as they are tormented by a mysterious being who calls himself Heartseed. For example: The first trial they endure is randomly swapping bodies for 10 to 40 minutes at a time. I know I often complain that FAR too many anime are centered around teenagers and high school bullshit.

The great task in life is to find reality. The remaining narrative elements are expected to be resolved in the remaining four episodes, but beyond an otherwise unremarkable anime, Kokoro Connect is likely to be remembered for an incident where voice actor Mitsuhiro Ichiki was falsely enticed into auditioning for a role in the anime for an original character.

I fell in love with Kokoro Connect

The "love and teen pentagonal comedy" follows the five members of Yamaboshi High's Student Cultural Society club—consisting of three girls and two boys—and their everyday lives as they deal with some very strange phenomena such as randomly switching bodies with each other or having their innermost desires unleashed. It is revealed that the phenomena are caused by a mysterious supernatural entity that goes by the name 'Heartseed' who wants to be entertained. Kokoro Connect deals with what would happen if people could see different sides of their friends—their darkest and even their most vulnerable sides. Each arc addresses curious dilemmas such how someone would react if they switched bodies with someone else, especially the opposite gender, or what it would be like if people had no inhibitions. This series explores the ramifications such bizarre situations would have on the people themselves and how they might try to fix each others' failings and complexes as they discover them. It is a story of Ordinary High School friends dealing with the ordinary struggles of teenagehood , all the while in the middle of very unordinary situations , and how their friendships survive it all.

Five high school friends suddenly begin switching bodies. It seems random, until they learn about a mysterious entity called "Heartseed. Maybe not. Five high schoolers learn that the hard way.

Overview After an inconclusive ending to the Kokoro Connect TV series, reviewed earlier , it seemed a continuation was inevitable despite the series ending at a comfortable length of 13 episodes. The story, however, is far from resolved. A set of four OVA episodes, titled Kokoro Connect: Michi Random in Japanese, were released after a brief wait and it reignited the chaotic relationships between the characters. At just four episodes long, is it worth opening up old wounds and winding the clock back with this release by Hanabee?
