This is Jeff Bayer, and I don't update this site very often. If you'd like to listen to my current movie podcast you can find it at MovieBS. PLOT: When their homeland of Jellystone National Park is threatened by a mayor with plans to destroy the forest, two picnic-raiding bears voiced by Aykroyd and Timberlake work with a bumbling park ranger Cavanagh to save the day. Yogi Bear would be a better way to punish your kids than entertain them. Hopefully, the writers would ease off on the bear puns. Especially compared to how the voice was done in the original Hanna Barbera cartoon, with a slight urban-toughness to him, this just comes off as a poor impersonation.

A lot of people have been complaining about this new Yogi Bear movie, which merges live-action with CGI characters in order to bring the popular Hann-Barbera cartoon to life in the very same vein as Scooby-Doo or The Chipmunks have already. Of course, those same people always assert that their beloved childhood cartoons should be spared from Hollywood's exploitative touch, so they will probably spiral further down into despair when they see this latest Yogi Bear trailer. Now, the second Yogi Bear trailer was pretty thin on story read: there wasn't one , instead opting to throw a series of hijinks and gags at us in the hope that we would be amused. And, if I was a six-year-old boy again, I might've been. This new trailer is basically a re-hash that also fails to introduce any real "story" for the film, and again relies upon hijinks, gags, CGI characters voiced by big-name stars Dan Aykroyd as Yogi, Justin Timberlake as Boo Boo and the all-powerful promise of 3D. I feel especially bad for Tom Cavanagh Scrubs and Anna Farris Scary Movie , who play the two live-action humans who suffer Yogi's crazy picnic basket-swiping schemes. However, despite everything in this film that fails to impress me, I'm pretty sure the kids will get a kick out of Yogi Bear. Watch the new trailer below:. As you can see, from the "humor," to the "dialog" to the phoned-in "acting" by the human players, Yogi Bear looks to be strictly for the juice box crowd, while simultaneously serving as a nice payday for the actors involved. After all, that Chipmunks franchise has been a gold mine so far!

For years now, Hollywood has been attempting to adapt beloved cartoon shows for the big screen, usually with disappointing results. Whether it's been casting live action actors into films like Dudley Do-Right , Inspector Gadget , or George of the Jungle or taking the central, hand-drawn animated characters and making them animated with CGI and put in a live action setting - like Garfield , Scooby Doo or Marmaduke - the format usually doesn't work very well. The latest character to get the latter treatment is the classic Hanna Barbera cartoon, Yogi Bear. Taking a page out of the same handbook used to create Garfield or the upcoming Smurfs , Yogi Bear mixes live action with CGI to bring the picnic basket-stealing bear to the silver screen. The approach looks better than some of the aforementioned attempts, with Yogi and Boo Boo's updated appearances being more faithful than most others who make the transition to movies.
