Elfen Lied Season 2: Release date, news and rumors
Now, that is just messed up. Even for anime standards. Elfen Lied revolves around the Diclonius, a new type of humanoid that have different genetic and physical makeup although very similar to a human.
The story revolves around a Diclonius called Lucy who tries to escape the institution and is later found stranded on the beach by the main protagonist Kohta; Lucy having lost her memory due to a gunshot wound to the head while trying to escape. Kohta takes her in and comforts her until her memory returns. Now Lucy must fight her way through to protect Kohta as her murderous, brutal past slowly returns to her. As shown in this scene, the series is most famously known by the anime community as being extremely violent and gory.
In other words, it is unlike any other anime opening you have seen. Another interesting aspect of Elfen Lied is its small use of better known voice actors; the most well known probably being Sanae Kobayashi who does he voice of Lucy also starred as the voices of Allen Walker in D.
Besides the use of profound violence, Elfen Lied employs many other themes including the value of humanity, jealousy, social alienation, identity, abuse, revenge, regret and love. According to ADV Films, Elfen Lied was stated as being the bestselling and most notorious series of that shows that the western countries have better respect for this series than everywhere else, I guess.
To me, the series is heavily influenced by the emotional aspect of the plot and the violence is merely used to reinforce the characters emotional struggles.
Elfen Lied is also one of the very few series that actually made me cry, and contains what I personally see as the greatest ending in anime history. You will not regret it, trust me. Elfen Lied is by far the most beautiful anime I have ever seen, and I believe it is truly an one of a kind.
Dude, first I say this: i feel ya. Really, the anime made me spare some tears, but the manga made me cry like a bitch.
About it being an overated and rather unkwown series by most common anime watchers, I can tell that the people that watched or readed or both it really are blessed with an incredibly huge story with a 13ep long anime and chapters of manga. Few anime nowadays can even scratch its feels i guess only clannad. The anime for sure made me cry, but like the guy above be said, the manga literally had me bauling for a good 30 minutes, like a little kid.

Elfen Lied tells the tragic and catastrophic story of Lucy, the Diclonii, and the humans. From the start of their emergence, the Diclonii have been brought to secret research facilities for morbid experiments and studies. One of them is Lucy—a woman considered to be the Queen of all Diclonius! Since birth, the nature of a Diclonius oftentimes leads to a tragic future…and Lucy was not exempt! As a matter of fact, her upbringings were also worse!

Best Anime Like Stranger Things
What kind of show do you get when you pluck characters who vaguely seem to be cookie-cutouts of harem anime regulars from their respective shows and have them deal with subject matter that pertains to the conflict of human desensitization in regards to non-human life as a means to convey profound existential questions of the underlying difference or more precisely, indifference between human and non-human life? You get Elfen Lied : a neat little package of gore, nudity, and fervent emotion but more on the gore and nudity. To start off, there are mainly two ways for me to look at Elfen Lied : the first way being to look at it as a fairly intense, but approachable and kinky, quasi-harem drama; the other way being to look at it as some kind of evocative tragedy in the vein of high art. If I look at the show in the context of the latter, it just doesn't work. I can point out so many problems with director Kanbe Mamoru's relatively unsophisticated execution that it isn't even funny. First of all, the manner in which some of the intellectually-loaded ideas are conveyed comes off as clunky and overly blatant.

As a result, Lucy grew to despise humanity with an utter hatred. As soon as she escaped the facility where she was being held, she unleashed a torrent of hate onto the world. For its gore and gloominess, this anime has earned quite the reputation!
The anime inspired the creation of many series, which turned out to be a great hit. Elfen Lied is based on a Japanese manga series of the same name, written and illustrated by Lynn Okamoto.
