As an adamant fan of the show, these are undoubtedly the reasons that even though this show is no long on the air, I still pull out the DVDs and watch because, well, they are so endearing and fun. Freakazoid!

It follows the adventures of Freakazoid, an entity created by the addition of all the information on the Internet note This was back in , so his head probably didn't explode thanks to the fact that hentai and Widgets hadn't become synonymous with Japan yet. He probably just went insane from all the Usenet groups.

It parodied, lampshaded, or subverted every trope of superheroics at the time , and can be described as "an anthropomorphic fusion of 4chan, TV Tropes, and I Can Haz Cheezburger, years before any of those things existed. In almost every adventure, Freakazoid would encounter his deadpan policeman buddy, Sgt.

Mike Cosgrove, who would offer to take him to some bizarre unrelated event or activity. Wanna go out for a mint? He'd resume it shortly thereafter, as if nothing had happened.

At the insistence of Steven Spielberg, it was re-tooled into a pure comedy, at which point Timm, realizing that he wasn't suited for something so unabashedly goofy, stepped aside note although he and Dini contributed scripts that, as the producers noted, had much more coherent plots than the show's usual anarchy. Although the show attracted a loyal following, the demographic it delivered was older than what Kids' WB was aiming for the show was marketed towards young children, who, not surprisingly, didn't quite understand the show's often arcane sense of humor.

After a series of baffling time slot changes failed to improve ratings, the show was canceled after just two seasons. Despite this, the show later aired on Cartoon Network and has a cult following. We join our hero in a perilous journey to buy Christmas gifts for his friends and family at the last minute. Between episodes, there's a musical interlude with Freakazoid playing Jingle Bells on the piano. In The Cloud , a strange cloud is terrorizing the Alps, clownifying people who dare to go inside it. Meanwhile, Freakazoid is making his way through Europe on a train, bound for a vaguely Germanic town called Schnitzle. At the train station, Hans is waiting for Freakazoid to take him to the observatory via skybucket.

Following the successful run of Batman: The Animated Series , Steven Spielberg contacted show co-creator Bruce Timm with whom he was previously associated through Tiny Toon Adventures to request his help in developing a new superhero show that would be made between Amblin Entertainment and Warner Bros. Timm and Paul Dini crafted the pitch for an edgy superhero with a manic personality that would star in a serious adventure show with comedic undertones. Spielberg loved the pitch, but wanted the concept to lean more towards comedy. Timm, feeling unable to deliver the kind of show Spielberg wanted, bowed out of the project. Spielberg called in Tom Ruegger , who had developed Tiny Toons and Animaniacs with Spielberg, to redevelop the series from scratch. This actually led to some criticism from comic book creator Mike Allred who felt the character was a direct lift of his Madman ; from his appearance right down to personality.
