If this episode was just Flame Princess and Ice King battling it out, it would be one awesome cartoon, but the added element of personal drama takes it to another level. After a rude comment from Ice King sends FP into a fiery fury, she gives him a massive beating that leaves Finn blushing. It is the first of many such moments. Instead, it feels good. It feels good and he wants more. He goads FP into fighting Ice King again the next day, but when he goes back to bed, he dreams that Ice King is freezing his junk.
Also: the Cosmic Owl appears. Upon hearing about the Cosmic Owl, Jake is convinced these are prophetic dreams and tells Finn he needs to finish the nightmare.
Once again, Jake offers horrible advice. Finn writes two letters that succeed in pitting FP and Ice King against each other, but he does too good of a job and sends his girlfriend into a rage that puts everyone at risk.

A huge part of what made Adventure Time such an incredibly engaging show was the veritable litany of unique and interesting characters. This went far beyond the series' main protagonists, Finn and Jake. There were some absolutely brilliant characters, both good and evil, as well as a few who straddled the line between the two. Possibly the most engaging character was the Ice King. He started as an off the wall villain determined to kidnap a princess. Over time, he evolved into a complicated individual who became the essential tragic villain. But he wasn't always the perfect archetype of that role.

The Adventure Time series finale offered a satisfying, if open-ended, conclusion to the story of Finn, Jake, and the rest of the gang. But before the main plot could begin, we were treated to a brand new opening theme set years in the future and starring a new pair of adventurers named Shermy and Beth the Pup Princess likely a descendant of Jake. The two heroes mostly served as a framing device, seeking out the King of Ooo BMO, of course to learn the origin of a mysterious metal arm that they happen upon.
