Sarazanmai ep 2 live reaction

With Kazuki back to how he used to be after saving Haruka and returning to his human form, things are looking to shape up with our three boys and Keppei. Or so you think! Are there underlying consequences to what Enta just did with how his friends will treat him? What will Kuji do now that his brother has put him in a situation where he has to leave? What would happen if the dishes were combined to grant a wish.

First Impressions – Sarazanmai

Even among sweethearts, there exists a distinct power relationship! Love is war! Gigguk summed this show up in his video summarizing the Winter season by saying it poses "one of the most important questions in modern philosophy: if a tsundere and a tsundere liked each other, would they ever find out?

The former is an heiress waited on by servants, the latter worked his way in from a family that is poor by elite private school standards. This is all summed up at the beginning of episode 1 in the melodramatic intro narration which starts with what I quoted above then carries on for three additional minutes of exposition explaining the main characters and setting.

Then again at the beginning of ep. They knew just how long to keep that running joke going. The show also exaggerates the mundane visually by borrowing from the particular kinds of shots heavy on motion lines and exaggerated movements that would be used for straight drama in an action or sports anime.

This format is pretty funny on its own, but it would probably get tedious if not for recurring characters who stir things up and upend their metaphorical chessboard mid-game, often leading to vignettes that conclude with neither winning.

Treasurer Yu Ishigami, a first-year the others do not know well but recruited due to his sheer skill, is the polar opposite of Chika: pessimistic to the point of likely depression and terrified of Kaguya. Kaguya-sama: Love is War is just delightful and I strongly recommend it. Ass: No fanservice. Lots of sexual jokes, mostly playing off of Kaguya being not only inexperienced with but sheltered from sexuality, plus the general kinds of comments you might expect real teenagers to make.

Otherwise, no complaints here. Shit other : Yet another show suffering from occasional very low frame rate, but it otherwise looks great and is absolutely full of those exaggerated reaction faces that you get in a lot of comedy anime. There are two different ending animations, which is interesting. This comes as a great relief to me, as her usual comments on anime girls consist mostly of identifying way too strongly with all the yanderes.

View on Twitter. I had a great time and look forward to doing this again at AAC! Sarazanmai When Kazuki and his new classmate, a delinquent named Toi, accidentally destroy the statue of a kappa in a plaza in Asakusa , Keppi, the Prince of the Kappas, appears and is… displeased. Keppi then tasks them with -checks notes again- stopping ghosts who are stealing from humans to fulfill their own obsessive desires.

The method of both kappafication and stopping the ghosts? That clears everything up, right? Fair enough. This is not a show that you can just plunge into immediately. And yes, the otters as enemies of kappas are relevant, too. See, the plot of each monster-of-the-week episode revolves around a single obsessive desire-ghost whom the kappas have to defeat. Meanwhile, unknown to them, Mobu and Reo, a couple of sadistic and fabulous cops with an otter-centric theme song of their own are out to collect the energy of those desires for a mysterious shadowy organization.

Their method? The shadowy organization? Well, its symbol is an otter, so just take a guess. Each fight is structured nearly-identically, but with a lot of changes between them. This also explains why this show is as surreal and as gay as it is. Their own degrees of blame for these vary, but all three are in situations that are now beyond their control and about which they are ashamed.

Kazuki impersonates an idol and TV personality his brother Haruka is a fan of in order to connect with him. And Toi needs to repay the debt he feels he owes to his brother, the only remaining member of his immediate family. I started out thinking this is just total weirdness, especially with so much crammed into the first couple of episodes that I finished them having barely processed what I saw.

Add to it an idol with a kawaii verbal tic and some magical transformation sequences, and you get… well… a very high weeb score. Ass: This show contains a truly outrageous amount of literal ass, some nudity, and some kink. As body horror? As sex comedy? But as fanservice? Still, uh, probably not family-friendly. Shit writing : My biggest complaint is the pacing, especially in the first couple of episodes. I think slightly longer episodes rather than more of them might be the solution this show needed.

Sometimes, a piece of media is so notorious that you have to check it out for yourself. Ghost Stories originally , English dub version Satsuki and her younger brother Keiichiro are the new kids in town. There is an old abandoned school next to the one they are set to attend, and when they and their new classmates Hajime, Leo, and Momoko go in looking for their cat, they quickly discover it is extremely haunted.

Anyway, this first misadventure also set up the main format and goal of the show: containing various supernatural entities haunting the area. The ghosts, centered around the old school but sometimes appearing elsewhere, were released from the place they were formerly locked away by some construction. As is typical for shows of this format, the truth of the hauntings stays effortlessly a secret among the main group, even after evidence of them is seen by others at school.

Nor does anybody even seem particularly concerned by the mundane dangers of repeatedly shifting other school activities into the abandoned building. You may not even have any idea what the plot was. If it is the kind of thing you want to watch, though, this show may be unironically entertaining.

Especially since Ghost Stories in its original format was popular and remains fairly positively-reviewed in Japan , contrary to popular belief.

For the most part, the dub fills the show with localized and no-longer-topical American references, so difficulties understanding it will more likely be due to time than place.

Ass: Lowbrow Japanese sex comedy meets lowbrow American sex comedy, at least where Hajime is concerned. Not fancervicey but also not family-friendly.

At its best, this show is irreverent and points out problems with its own source material. At its worst, it has some uncomfortable jokes that land on the lighter end of actual bigotry. Or just baffling. Shit other : This show is better-drawn than I expected, since it came to me with a reputation for being awful, and man, I specifically love the painted backgrounds of the pre-digital-everything era of anime.

Like The Ring and that tape. Or something else from Japan. Hey everyone. This has not been a great year for the blog. A Canadian video game is an odd choice for this blog, I admit. A Bird Story is… well… a story about a bird. Weeb: No real background knowledge needed. Shit: The only negative thing I have to say about this is that the music is a bit… stock dramatic visual novel.

Otherwise, I think the creator did an excellent job, especially in using the game engine elements to create moods and scene transitions with things like opening your bedroom door directly into woods. Content: Nothing in particular. ALT View on Twitter. My write-ups of Episodes 1 to 4 and Episodes 5 to 8 can be found here, and spoilers obviously abound for the entire series. Katagiri, Tokyo can only be saved by a person like you. Pretty much all of his commercial material is being pulled from sale — his role in the upcoming Sega game Judgment , for example, was hurriedly pulled from sale and recast despite the game being newly released , his work under musical duo Denki Groove has been yanked from streaming platforms and shelves, and TV shows and movies he appeared in are either being recast or cancelled entirely. While Pierre Taki probably has nothing to do with kappas, I think a scenario like this is interesting to bring up because of the ways in which Sarazanmai views despair as the product of society itself. The pressure to conform and to give up on desire is an external, unnatural force in the otters, whose factory acts as the central antagonist in the show and whose agents appear as reflections that try to sway the thoughts of people in certain directions. Likewise, the way in which Japan systematically erases the work of offending celebrities by cutting them out of the public eye is designed to be seen as an internal, rather than external problem. The reflections of their own desires that characters are shown by the otters are entirely cynical interpretations of a being that believes everyone to be motivated by selfishness. His frustrated, jealous reaction to it reveals to us both that Reo is somewhat under the influence of this ideology, but also that he feels some self-loathing over the situation — unable to find a way to save Mabu, he perceives it as an internal problem with himself rather than one with the otters and their machinery. In a similar vein, we later see an otter try to tempt Enta by taking the form of his sexual desire for Kazuki to be in a relationship with him. Similarly, when Kazuki alienates Toi with his Hope Dish wish to save Enta, the cosplay headpiece that Kazuki had been using to disguise himself as Sara and which represents his romantic bond with Toi is shattered.

True to form, Ikuni chooses not to go with the simple, straightforward finale, at least not in terms of presentation. While it retained several elements of previous episodes, I still felt like I was back in that first episode, wondering what the hell was going on.

Justin Briner born August 23 [1] [2] is an American voice actor. He has provided voices for English-language versions of Japanese anime films and television series with Funimation. Justin Briner was born and raised in Maryland. A reviewer wrote on Anime UK News that she was impressed with the quality of the dub and that Briner and fellow voice actor Micah Solusod "have a lot to do with how instantly likably the characters come across, which helps carry the whole show". In video games, Briner voiced Ichi, the love interest of the main character, in Cibele , an indie video game about developing an online relationship.

Mar 11th at AM. Alright, another thread made by me because why not. This time is for a new anime called Sarazanmai. For those who don't know.

Even among sweethearts, there exists a distinct power relationship! Love is war! Gigguk summed this show up in his video summarizing the Winter season by saying it poses "one of the most important questions in modern philosophy: if a tsundere and a tsundere liked each other, would they ever find out?

Welcome everyone to another late post about The Vision of Escaflowne! What do I mean? Lets dive in and find out! To start off, what do I mean by the weaknesses of this moment to moment approach?

The Spring anime season has begun, and with it a number of highly anticipated blockbuster series. Some of these new and returning shows are living up the fans' wildest expectations, while others have proven to be unfortunate disappointments even if some of these disappointments are still worth watching in spite of their flaws.

Even though the LN might be ending, the mangas are still ongoing and anime aren't always adapted to only sell the original source media. LN and manga readers are almost never satisfied with anime adaptations, so shooting for their satisfaction is a lost cause. So, I hope the don't aim for that and just try to adapt enough of the story so their aren'y too many obvious loose ends or obvious gaps. Also, obvious to LN and manga readers aren't what I mean. I've seen even anime only viewers express quite similar concerns to LN readers about this season, so it's not just dissatisfied LN readers I have no problem with the anime making changes if they improve something.

Anime has grown leaps and bounds in the last few years let alone the last few decades. From sci-fi to romance and thrillers, the medium has something for everyone if you know where to look. Of course, not every series can be a mainstream hit, and some of those questionable titles are straight-up strange. But if you are into that kind of thing, well — fans are calling out the most WTF shows they've seen to date.
