The only details fans were provided with were a simple, yet unusual, teaser trailer featuring actors Hakuryu and Kunio Murai , who are both from the Saga prefecture. A live action still accompanied the trailer. The story follows Sakura Minamoto, a high school girl who wants to become an idol but dies the day she plans to submit an application.

Damn it all the dub of Zombie Land Saga episode 2 didn't dub the rap?

When word broke that a new Resident Evil project was brewing down at the Netflix labs, fans were almost to the point of pulling out the apocalyptic flowchart to try and keep up with exactly what was going on with the long-running horror franchise in live action.

Inspired by the hit video game series of the same name, Resident Evil has already been adapted into a hexology of live-action films that made more than a billion dollars at the box office over the past two decades.

The first was the big screen reboot Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City , which aimed to create a more reverential adaptation of the first two video games in the franchise it even turned back the clock and set the action in , the same year the original game took place.

Despite its deference to the games, the film was DOA with critics and barely made a dent at the box office. The result? The aptly titled Resident Evil , a new eight-episode television series that splits its story straight down the middle between a shiny New Raccoon City run by Umbrella Corp in the present day, and an infected-filled future wasteland long after the world has come to an end 14 years in the future.

The series revels in the expansive lore of Resident Evil , remixing ideas, themes, characters, and creatures that fans will almost certainly recognize from across the games, animated films, and live-action lore. The present day story has some major The Walking Dead: World Beyond vibes, doing its best to thread the melodrama of high school with the surreal and deadly stakes all around it. The future-set story is more in line with the kind of zombie-filled post-apocalypse fans of the franchise have come to expect, featuring some ambitious set pieces and locations a bit outside the norm from the usual creepy old mansions, underground labs, and overrun Raccoon City fans might expect.

We also start peeling back the layers of how this post-apocalypse works, including the key role Umbrella still plays long after the T-virus has decimated the globe. Showrunner Andre Dabb Supernatural has a strong grasp on the story he wants to tell, and how he wants to place it within the wider, nebulous timeline and tone of Resident Evil.

Instead of straight-up survival horror, or silly sci-fi horror, the Netflix series frames its action around a layered Umbrella conspiracy and mystery itself a trademark of the franchise , as we dig deeper into exactly how Jade and her family fit into it all. Telling a story broken cleanly across two timelines can be a risky approach, but Resident Evil does an excellent job of establishing a through line that carries the story across these two settings seamlessly, doling out reveals and twists that play out across both eras to effectively fill in the gaps as it goes.

It also uses its soundtrack to full effect with plenty of needle drops at key moments which are sometimes a bit on the nose and cliffhanger hooks. With the live-action future of the franchise in a state of flux, Resident Evil marks an ambitious new direction to start charting the next phase. Even after all these years, it seems this shambling undead saga still has plenty of life left in it.

I was really stoked for Zombieland Saga based purely on the nonsense trailer and the ridiculous cast reveal video — turns out the idea for the show had been gestating for 4 years prior to getting made, which might explain the volume of content and jokes packed into each of its minute episodes. Animate Times is featuring a series of interviews with the cast members and the first two feature our MCs? Saga 00 interview released October 4th, prior to anime airing. Q: This is a zombie show — what was your initial reaction upon discovering that you would be appearing in it? Miyano: I mostly read zombie comics. When the topic of zombies is brought up, [Thriller] is what comes to my mind.

Being the spiritual successor for Studio Madhouse many of the shows least, in my opinion, fell flat in they face mainly because MAPPA loves the play the field spell card called style over substance where the writing for these shows seemed to fall by the side in favour of pretty colours and flashing scenes. Zombieland Saga is, unfortunately, no exception to this as despite the show being advertised as a parody idol anime that had a lot of potential to be good. Unfortunately it the end it ended being another generic seasonal anime that you will easily forget once the anime season is over. If I had two words to describe the story of Zombieland Saga it would be missed potential as the series had potential to be this fun parody of the idol genre as a whole would made me laugh for days. The one thing that sold me watching Zombieland Saga is that it was a nice parody of the idol genre as it showcases all the tropes and elements that were using in the idol anime genre and no surprise the first 4 episodes actually did just that as it never took itself too seriously. The best and most memorable part of Zombieland Saga was the rap battle in episode 2. Not only the rap battle was very hilarious and entertaining to watch from start to finish, but it was very well set up and timed narrative and visually.

Zombie Land Saga takes a hard twist in episode one. First you believe this is your regular old high-school girl focused show. Minamoto Sakura is just your regular old second year high-schooler. Then she gets hit by a small truck and dies. Quite the dramatic twist. Beyond the opening of the show, Zombie Land Saga is rather charming and extremely funny.

Zombieland Saga has always had the ability to surprise and entertain, and episode 1 of this new series of the show, subtitled Revenge , is no different in that regard. This was an idol show unlike any other, uninterested in broader idol culture and more interested in the reasons that idols bring hope and inspiration to others. A unique performance, passion on and off stage, a desire to achieve a dream… even a recognition of the artificiality of idol presentation inherent in the zombie foundation is nonetheless a celebration of what idol culture means to people, not the pain it can sometimes represent.
