Perfectly good selection of Turkish food. Freshly prepared and cooked before on a charcoal bbq you can watch. Reasonable value, good service and fuss free. I never thought I would be writing a review on a Kebab shop but here I am! As others have said, the outside looks like a standard 'Doner kebab' joint, but keep going The food is delicious and fresh - I love the mixed meze and Tarama and of course the kebabs.

T he straggly Dalston stretch of the A10 in London, halfway between Tottenham and Shoreditch, would smell of nothing but traffic fumes, were it not for its procession of Turkish charcoal grills. Loyal customers including Ken Livingstone, Rowan Atkinson and Elijah Wood will merrily queue for 45 minutes for a seat. And this week, Mangal 1 is set to open an outpost — Mangal 1.

Black Axe Mangal advertises itself as an avant-garde kebab house drawing influences from around the world, not just from Turkey. The giant Turkish-style bread oven is decorated with a mural of the band Kiss. Meanwhile the floor, as you come through the door, has been adorned with paintings of fire-spurting cocks. What a time to be alive. The bread was uniformly soft and fluffy across all my visits with a touch of elasticity and a hint of charred smoke. Still, the tart and sharp sauerkraut was a saving grace. While the lamb offal was a poor start, the BAM giro made up for it in spades.
