Supersonic monkeys, vampires, talking fishmen, and all sorts of different supernatural monsters living alongside humans—this has been part of daily life in Hellsalem's Lot, formerly known as New York City, for some time now. When a gateway between Earth and the Beyond opened three years ago, New Yorkers and creatures from the other dimension alike were trapped in an impenetrable bubble and were forced to live together.
Libra is a secret organization composed of eccentrics and superhumans, tasked with keeping order in the city and making sure that chaos doesn't spread to the rest of the world. Pursuing photography as a hobby, Leonardo Watch is living a normal life with his parents and sister. But when he obtains the "All-seeing Eyes of the Gods" at the expense of his sister's eyesight, he goes to Hellsalem's Lot in order to help her by finding answers about the mysterious powers he received. He soon runs into Libra, and when Leo unexpectedly joins their ranks, he gets more than what he bargained for.
Kekkai Sensen follows Leo's misadventures in the strangest place on Earth with his equally strange comrades—as the ordinary boy unwittingly sees his life take a turn for the extraordinary. I normally don't follow airing anime, and you know my reasons why, ehehe Well, you can't really blame ufotable, since they're just following the source material. The original visual novel was partially a hentai game, but all the fans agree the R-rated scenes are really unarousing. There's no plot or character development in those scenes and they serve only to take you out of the atmosphere, freak you out for a bit, and then set you on you way again. It doesn't really serve a purpose, other than make Caster look, uh, kind of kinky.

Both viewers of anime and in-universe characters alike often yearn to be exceptional. The traditional special teen narrative focuses on plucking protagonists from their humdrum lives and plopping them elsewhere, bestowing upon them universe-breaking powers. They were given to him unwillingly, as his sister Michella was able to act more quickly in a high pressure situation, offering her eyes as part of a sacrifice. While we, as an audience, can easily identify with being normal, possessing the eyes of god is something completely unrelatable. Leonardo now stands out from others, even with his ordinary character design, as his eyes are nearly always shut or covered by tinted goggles. The only times that they are not shut, are when he is actively using his power, or is forced to open his eyes by others. Activating the eyes of god is accompanied by an auditory cue and the presentation of the scene through our eyes — what a normal person would see — and a haze, before the true image that Leonardo sees is revealed.

Aw dang I reviewed the Nightow-Matsumoto monster mash. Instead we got a very aesthetically compelling series of adventure vignettes with some crappy humor that somewhat falls apart in its second half. Directed by Rei Matsumoto, the anime involves some of the most creative camera angles that make it extremely engaging. Even the story—though it may seem a little non-chronological—has been laid out in the best possible way and is quite fascinating. Despite being very simple, the plot of the anime has been executed in a way that is very different from your typical Shounen setup. When it comes to the technical aspects of the anime, the art and animation quality are fairly decent. But despite all the minor inconsistencies in its animation quality, the fight scenes are still quite enjoyable and the character designs are almost perfect.
