As it turns out though, the classic shows you look back on so fondly as you grow older may not be quite as innocent as you remember them being. Here are 15 controversial episodes of classic cartoons. Taking place in the fictional country of Carbombya subtle, right? The episode was eventually re-aired on TV, albeit with cuts made to ensure the absence of any blood in the offending scene.

Featuring a scene in which Meowth wears a mustache and clothes reminiscent of Adolf Hitler, this only added fuel to the fire, resulting in the episode being pulled from syndication completely.

Rugrats was a show known for dealing with sensitive subject matter in a careful, well-rounded manner, frequently addressing topics such as religion, parental death and adoption. Is it possible for a character covered head to toe in fur to be truly naked on screen? One of the more beloved shows in the revered Disney Afternoon line-up, TaleSpin was a pseudo-spin-off of The Jungle Book , featuring the character Baloo as a pilot in the fictional town of Cape Suzette.

During its time on the air, Animaniacs managed to build itself quite the reputation for subtly slipping in adult jokes as a wink to its older viewership, constantly pushing the boundaries of what the censors would allow in a variety of creative ways. After taking on a case involving a missing diamond necklace, Yakko instructs his sister Dot to search the room for prints. Containing sexual humour, innuendo and themes of adultery, the episode follows Bev Bighead as she attempts to seduce Rocko after feeling unappreciated by her husband.

Cow and Chicken was one weird show. Following the titular siblings Cow and Chicken -- who are somehow the biological children of two humans -- the show was frequently grotesque, containing a lot of gross out humor and even a central character who was basically a naked Devil.

While the implications here are rather clear on their own, the stereotypical appearance of the Buffalo Gals combined with their affinity for softball left no question as to what the creators were aiming for, and Cartoon Network quickly pulled the episode from syndication to avoid further controversy.

Considered too violent for children, the episode featured a vengeful Ren as he mercilessly beats a character to a bloody pulp with a wooden oar. In the episode, Dexter builds a machine that will separate the rude character traits of his meddlesome sister Dee Dee from her polite ones. Predictably, both Dexter and Dee Dee end up trapped in the machine together, creating an obnoxious pair of foul-mouthed doppelgangers in the process.

For the remainder of the episode, these Doppelgangers run amok, cursing like sailors. Sadly, Cartoon Network never officially aired the segment on their network, but the episode made its way around several animation festivals, with an uncensored version appearing online. Known primarily for its gung-ho action, patriotism and penchant for PSAs, G. Constantly driven to the point of lunacy as he questions his own sanity, Shipwreck is even forced to watch his wife and daughter who unbeknownst to him are clones melt into a sticky, plastic mess at the climax of the episode, sending him over the edge of madness.

Needless to say, this episode was probably nightmare fuel for a whole generation of children. What's the most controversial cartoon episode you remember? Sound off in the comments below! Read Next in television.

'Artemis Fowl' Review

This is a list of the various advertising programs fast food restaurant chain Burger King has employed over the course of its history. It includes promotional slogans, jingles and media tie-ins. This is a partial history of BK advertising slogans: [1] [2]. The jingle was used for several years in the s, and has been modified several times and reused: during the s the phrase at Burger King today was added at the end of the song. A commercial with Shaquille O'Neal had different tempos of jingles as Shaq goes into a s malt shop , then s and s styles and finally a s neon theme, each line reflecting music styles of said decade.

Just an Average Artist — I’m tellin’ ya, this video is cursed.

Even before the rise of cable and streaming platforms, with their lack of standards and practices departments, TV had the ability to scare the shit out of us. Classic series like Twin Peaks and The Twilight Zone weren't hampered by commercial breaks and a lack of swears — instead, the fantastic storytellers behind those and other shows. Of course, with the advent of television made for an adult audience, able to handle some boobs and swears and a lot more blood, TV has managed to get a whole lot scarier. This list of the scariest episodes ever was narrowed down from a "short list" of nearly options, and we'll keep updating it as new shows enter the pantheon. Which seems like a very likely possibility, given how many horrors are currently packed into the real world. Because the kinds of scary represented by these episodes varies wildly from disturbing psychodrama to flat-out thriller are awfully disparate and also, everyone's fears are different , we decided against ranking this list which means that, yes, all the X-Files episodes we had to mention are all at the end. There might be nightmare fuel that we've left off, or episodes of certain shows that you think happen to be scarier than the ones listed.

Despite being intended for developing minds, some children's shows are remarkably unsettling. There are plenty of cartoon episodes that gave us nightmares, especially if you're an older fan who grew up during a time when age-appropriate entertainment wasn't quite so wholesome. Most people recognize Courage the Cowardly Dog as one of the scariest cartoons of all time. After all, pretty much every episode revolves around a new eldritch abomination. However, plenty of animated horrors appear as normal kids' shows, making it easy for mature content to slip past the negligent eyes of disinterested parents. No matter how bright and upbeat franchises like The Powerpuff Girls try to be, creepy cartoons always manage to slip through the cracks. Courage's insecurities manifest into a horrific governess who's determined to make the canine hero "perfect" by way of yardstick beatings. Midway through the episode, Courage has a series of nightmares as surreal as they are off-putting.

There are plenty of cartoon episodes that gave us nightmares, but Dexter's Laboratory's "Filet of Soul" takes animated existentialism to a new level.

A mean lord exiles fairytale creatures to the swamp of a grumpy ogre, who must go on a quest and rescue a princess for the lord in order to get his land back. When I first saw this movie when I was extremely young, I was terrified for some reason. A few years later, I loved it.

Science fiction TV shows have been around almost as long as television itself. Today, sci-fi shows are ubiquitous; the winter television season had at least two shows about time travel and more than a few superhero shows with science fiction elements. The following list has the top fifteen science fiction shows for kids, ranked by quality, legacy, and use of scientific concepts and scientific inquiry. These shows had to have a distinct science element and be set in our world. If you grew up in the '90s, you know the Animorphs book series.

In Bulgaria, the Kremlin paid journalists, political analysts and other influential citizens 2, euros a month to post pro-Russian content online, a senior Bulgarian official revealed this month. Researchers also have uncovered sophisticated networks of fake accounts, bots and trolls in an escalating spread of disinformation and propaganda in the country. Similar efforts are playing out in other nations in the region as Russia looks to shift the blame for its invasion of Ukraine, the ensuing refugee crisis and rising prices for food and fuel. For Russia's leaders, expansive propaganda and disinformation campaigns are a highly cost-effective alternative to traditional tools of war or diplomacy, according to Graham Brookie, senior director at the Atlantic Council's Digital Forensic Research Lab, which has been tracking Russian disinformation for years.
