At 10 years old, my favorite hobby was scouring the shelves of my local DVD store for hours searching for my next adventure. An animated studio synonymous with the sweet memories of childhood wonder for me is the renowned Studio Ghibli. The film made such an indelible mark on me that I still have lingering feelings of warmth attached to it today. Seeing a Miyazaki film is like watching a graceful butterfly pass by: It leaves the viewer in awe of its beauty.

I finally got around to playing it, and I noticed that, in addition to English credits in a big tacky font, the opening and ending themes were replaced with English songs! What are these songs, and why were they replaced with the original songs on later releases? When Walt Disney Pictures licensed the Studio Ghibli library back in the late 90s, Kiki's Delivery Service was the first of the films to get a US release, as it was arguably the most plainly family-friendly film in the catalog. The film's theme song was the song by Yumi Arai. The film is based on the children's novel of the same name by Eiko Kadono. However, the film deviated from the original novel's story and themes, which upset Kadono during its production. She has since reconciled with Miyazaki.
