T he music that features in a film can be as moving, essential or memorable as any line of dialogue or actor's performance. A great soundtrack often transcends the film it first appeared in, whether it was comprised of pre-recorded songs by known artists, or original tracks that went on to become long-lasting hits.

But before The Greatest Showman and A Star is Born , there have been scores that have become etched into the cultural zeitgeist because they captured moments that spoke to us long after the final credits roll. Whether it's moody guitars of Seattle's grunge scene that served as the backdrop for Cameron Crowe's Singles, the euphoric trance in The Beach , or the teenage angst of British post-punk rock on Pretty in Pink : so many films would be nowhere near as good without the music that accompanied them.

From Pulp Fiction to Guardians of the Galaxy , here are the 40 greatest film soundtracks of all time:. It was one its picky lead character would have approved of. This may seem like sacrilege given that the first Dirty Dancing soundtrack is undeniably the more iconic of the two. But the soundtrack — featuring the Grammy-nominated Latin fusion band Yerba Buena, Colombian rock band Aterciopelados, and the Cuban hip hop group Orishasis — is what draws me back to this guilty pleasure of a film.

When it comes to soundtracking your movie, it helps if the director is a massive music nerd. Of course, music was always going to play a huge part in a film about a boy in a band and his video game quest to win the girl of his dreams.

In the summer of , the soundtrack to a film that flopped at the box office offered the masses the gateway they needed into the Seattle grunge scene. Adapting classic literary texts into modern-day high-school scenarios was a big thing in the Nineties.

Flashdance , the first collaboration between producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, is important because it actually changed how some of the most popular films of the Eighties were shot.

It also has a phenomenal soundtrack steered by Broken Social Scene, whose brilliant collection of B-sides proved indispensable for this film about a drug-addicted middle-school teacher struggling to deal with the aftermath of a breakup. Sofia Coppola is a queen of the needle-drop. The Lost in Translation soundtrack was so influential that several critics actually suggested it had something to do with the rebirth of shoegaze in the mid-Noughties.

Former Massive Attack producer Nellee Hooper is the brainchild behind one of the greatest film soundtracks of all time. Working with composers Craig Armstrong and Marius de Vries, he beta-tested many of the tracks that ended up on the album by playing them at 5am to afterparty guests at his house in London. As well as making a star of reggae singer Jimmy Cliff, both the film and soundtrack for The Harder They Come exposed mainstream audiences to the emerging Kingston recording industry.

The Beach soundtrack is what gives this film starring a fresh-faced Leonardo DiCaprio its vitality, capturing the essence of the trance music heard during Thai beach parties. The way the music progresses mirrors the grit and darkness that begin to make themselves known in what at first appeared to be paradise.

John Hughes nailed the formula for teen movies soundtracked by angsty British post-punk rock. Curated and co-executive produced by Kendrick Lamar, the Black Panther soundtrack enlisted a select group of extraordinary talent that would understand the themes in the film, from Anderson.

Paak to Earl Sweatshirt. Leading this group is Lamar himself, undoubtedly the best choice of artist for a film that explores responsibility, black power, family dynamics and loyalty. Where Jay-Z failed to step aside on the Great Gatsby soundtrack and let other artists do their thing, Lamar is more interested in highlighting the skills of his fellow artists, like South African singer Babes Wodumo, or Jorja Smith.

In a year that was saturated with period dramas, from a remake o f Jane Eyre to The Queen, Marie Antoinette stood out for its highly stylised depiction of a well-known historical figure. A biopic about the rise and fall of gangsta rap collective NWA was always going to be good — especially if its former members were involved in its production. Even so, the meticulous care with which the soundtrack for Straight Outta Compton was assembled is impressive, and provides backdrop for an origin story about some of the most influential and important artists of the Eighties and Nineties.

A veritable smorgasbord for any self-respecting music nerd: Baby Driver is a brilliant example of the perfect movie soundtrack. Unlike many films of the Nineties, which attempted to capitalise on the major rock stars of the day, 10 Things managed to select what is essentially a list of flash-in-the-pans, from Letters to Cleo and Semisonic to Save Ferris.

When you watch the film today, it only serves to fuel that feeling of nostalgia and add to its ever-growing cult status. An early example of a film that came to be defined by its music. It was groundbreaking for its themes of poverty and drug abuse which made the record stand out among the less socially aware music of its time. It would go on to influence everyone from TV score composers to soul singers in the decades that followed. How do you make a film with aliens, a talking tree and an anthropomorphic tree feel believable?

After two decades, it still holds up as one of the greatest and most lovingly curated collections of songs in music history.

The music is essentially a whole other character — a narrator who offers running commentary on the scenarios the others find themselves in. The concept for the plot, about a talented but tortured frontman of a band in Minneapolis, was developed by Prince during his tour. Purple Rain was one of the 10 highest-grossing films of and shows Prince as his most outrageous self.

What is particularly brilliant is the alternation between non-diegetic sound and the silence that precedes and is sustained during some of the most tense action sequences. The song was first used in the martial arts film Lady Snowblood, in which Kaji starred. Follow The Independent's Culture section on Facebook.

Latin megastar Ozuna to make guest appearance in Tom & Jerry; film releasing in India on Feb 19

Photo Courtesy of Warner Bros. Entertainment The beloved animated series returns with a new movie starring Chloe Grace Moretz. Even though the film is supposed to be about Tom and Jerry, it spends far too much time with the human characters. If the characters were any good, it would be one thing, but they are either very unlikable or incredibly annoying. The concept of having Tom and Jerry in New York is not only a bad idea, but it is just unoriginal.

Tom and Jerry

the tom and jerry movie songs

Tom and Jerry: The Movie disestablishes the entire plot of every classic cartoon that featured the cat trying to murder the mouse. One would figure that spreading a cat-and-mouse chase into more than one hour, no matter how inventive the death strategies and traps, would grow tiresome. In order to overtake them, the two have to get along, which is an unsettling notion for fans of the cartoon. Mancini, who won the Academy Award for "Moon River," made music right up until his passing, and Tom and Jerry was one of his final accomplishments. Unfortunately, the songs in Tom and Jerry, as witty as some of them are, are ultimately forgettable and, for a brilliantly colorful film, quite colorless.

Hey everyone this is Frank and thank you for reading this blog. When it was released in theaters it did poorly at the box office and with critics. It only grossed 3. The Story. So one of the biggest questions that comes with a Tom and Jerry Movie is how do you make a movie based in 5 minute short characters well by adding mixing a different movie with it. It follows Tom and Jerry as there family move out of there old home but Tom and Jerry get left behind and there house gets destroyed. So there left in the street and meet a dog name Puggsy and a bug name Frankie who tell them they need to become friends to make it threw the city and they reveal that they could talk. The Short, Short, Short of It: Your kids will probably like this fine, although, come to think of it, my kid wanted out pretty fast he watched after embargo. You know, the one where Jerry socks Tom in the eye? It won an Oscar. Uncannily high-definition re-skins of crudely drawn favorites — here, homicidal blue cat Tom and punchy tan mouse Jerry — interact with doddering humans.

Keith Baxter , director, songwriter, story artist, and virtuoso guitarist, and Greg Sims , composer, arranger, orchestrator, songwriter, and producer of music for film and television, worked together to deliver an arrangement for this upcoming series. Keith and Greg created a unique process to develop the music and story together. Unlike typical animation production in which various departments work separately, Keith and Greg work closely to solve the challenge of integrating songs with animation. Here we go..

Tom and Jerry: The Movie (1992)

We all have childhood memories related to Tom and Jerry and the slapstick humor surrounding their odd relationship, even though, if you watch them as an adult, you may notice some controversial sequences involving characters in blackface, cannibalism and bizarre acts of violence axes, anvils, teeth getting hammered or body parts getting sizzled. The Classical music community can feel for poor Tom: the piece presents a plethora of technical challenges and, by the end of the 19th century, it had become the unofficial gold standard through which each pianist could prove his or her prowess. This time around, Tom is no longer a Virtuoso pianist, but, instead, he wields a baton, conducting the Fledermaus overture. Of course, Jerry chimes in climbs onto the podium and tries first to conduct alongside Tom, then to steal the scene. The two, however, experience some sort of apparent bonding when the waltz section approaches. That truce, however, is shortlived, and first Jerry manages to attach wheels to the podium, which causes Tom to be run over by a bus, and then makes all players disappear. As a consequence, Tom has to play each instrument to save performance.

Original Review by Christopher Garner. Critics were not fond of the film, but it fared better than expected at the box office despite its release during the pandemic. For the music, Tim Story turned to his frequent collaborator, Christopher Lennertz.
