Devilman features Akira Fudo, a shy and timid teenager who has gone mountain climbing in the Himalayas with his father. While in the middle of the expedition, both father and son are killed in a tragic accident. Akira's body is found and possessed by the demon soldier Devilman, who uses his new human form as a disguise in order to fulfill his mission of causing chaos on Earth in order to pave the way for a demonic invasion of the planet. Before his mission can begin in earnest, Devilman meets Akira's childhood friend Miki Makimura and quickly falls in love with her. Devilman resolves to protect Miki and humanity as a whole by battling against his fellow demons.

Anime certainly has a way with creature features. Grotesque monstrosities with eyes, mouths, and organs all out of whack are all part of anime horror stories from Japan, particularly in the s. Devilman is yet another creation of the truly demented manga artist Go Nagai, and it features all sorts of nightmarish ghouls that define the genre. It's got some good qualities to it, but at the same time, it's also not very original or particularly entertaining. Go Nagai fans will love it, but the rest of us might want to reconsider. In Devilman , Akira is a young man whose parents have gone missing. He's staying with some friends in a new town, and the bullies inevitably find him an easy target. He's very different from the crowd, though, willing to risk his own life to save that of a simple rabbit. He's gentle to a fault, and even the girl who shows some interest in him isn't exactly sure what to make of him. But then Akira's old friend Ryo shows up.

In Devilmana Crybaby , Ryou, a teenage professor, tells Akira, his childhood friend, that demons are going to take over the world. They go to find evidence and Akira ends up fusing with Amon, a powerful demon, becoming a Devilman demon with the heart of a human. Whether it is the gratuitous violence and gore or the sex and body horror, this is definitely not for those who are squeamish about anything. Then the characters came along and my issue is each one is very much one thing with potentially one twist up their sleeve. In fact, it makes some of his earlier actions in Devilman Crybaby a lot easier to swallow because it makes sense that no sensible person would suddenly start slashing random strangers with a broken bottle in order to collect proof of demons.
