Created by Japanese developer Ganbarion, World Seeker is the first open-world title in a long line of video games based on the mega-popular, long-running anime One Piece. But in a gaming marketplace littered with more open-world titles than ever before, proper execution of any ideas is invaluable.

Ever since One Piece began being published over twenty years ago the series has been quite popular and throughout the years it has continued to garner attention alongside numerous different video games throughout the years. These titles range from fighting games, brawlers, action adventure games, and a variety of other different genre but like many other anime and manga franchises, the series has barely touched upon an open world style of game. Now with One Piece: World Seeker choosing to tackle that type of game, is it worth picking up?
While in the New World the Straw Hat crew hear of a vast amount of treasure being held within a prison facility called Jail Island and in an attempt to obtain these riches, Luffy pretends to be captured while the rest of the crew infiltrate the prison through other means. Unfortunately for the group this treasure turns out to be nothing more than a trick to lure unsuspecting pirates to the waiting hands of the Marines and other captors. With the marines sporting an uncommonly high number of sea-prism stone weapons Luffy barely escapes from their trap only to find himself plummeting into the ocean.
Saved by a woman named Jeanne Luffy finds himself initially separated from the rest of the Straw Hat crew only to eventually locate them with the help of Jeanne and the rest of the Anti-Marines faction. Due to a previous war, the island that was previously named Jewel Island due to its precious resources, ended up falling under Marine control and was transformed into its current state, with the Straw Hats now caught between the Pro-Marine and Anti-Marine factions it will be up to Luffy to help those in need.
This is primarily due to the fact that although all of the other Straw Hats and a number of other familiar faces make appearances in the game, they are not playable in any form and are instead relegated to being quest givers, opponents, or simply services for small side-features in the game. As mentioned before One Piece: World Seeker is an open world style game and with it come a variety of little features. Players will be able to explore a fairly sizable world where various hidden treasures can be located and opened, resources gathered from various points, and of course a number of side-quests to undertake if you so choose.
Navigating through this world as Monkey D. It is worth noting that the movement may feel a bit slow at first but once the first few upgrades are purchased navigating throughout the world can often be a far more enjoyable experience than simply using the fast travel system most of the time. The combat system of One Piece: World Seeker is a bit of a mixed bag primarily due to the fact that the game features an upgrade system with various abilities locked away until they are purchased.
This means that until players progress, Luffy is left with a droll move set that quickly grows tiresome even when swapping between his standard fighting form as well as the Haki based fighting styles. It is interesting to note that there are stealth takedowns available in the game to take down unaware enemies and it is possible to string these takedowns together if enemies are grouped up.
Along those same lines players will find that the various items and relationships they can build up tend to mostly unlock costumes and various other items that tend to play a minimal role in the game, leaving players with an open world game that simply feels empty at times, especially since the various locations tend to be sparsely populated.
The character designs perfectly match with their original counterparts and even the new original characters fit in quite well. Although empty the actual designs of the world and the various locations players visit on Prison Island are nicely detailed with a great amount of variety to be seen.
It is interesting to note that the game does not really feature any of the signature music of the original series but does sport a fairly satisfying mix of background music throughout the various areas in the world.
In fact there is even an option to listen to various tracks in the menu system if you happen to have a favorite. As for the voice work players will find that this game only features the Japanese voice track but unlike many anime games, it features a disappointingly limited amount of voice work outside of main dialogue events and cutscenes. Those looking for a nice new story in the One Piece world will find that with the help of Oda this game feels like it fits right in with the original work like a side-story though be prepared for most of the crew to sit around while Luffy does all the work.

One Piece has arrived in yet another video game, with World Seeker attempting to truly make players feel how it is to be Luffy. Will it succeed, or will the devil fruit powers fail to save the title? Luffy and the Straw Hats have broken into a facility in order to acquire a treasure. It turns out, however, that the rumored treasure was, in actuality, a ploy to lure them to the island. They manage to escape capture, but are split up in the process, with Luffy even being knocked into the ocean, which, as fans of the series know, would result in him drowning, due to his devil fruit powers making him unable to swim. Luckily, however, he is saved and decides to try to help the citizens reclaim their homes. Overall, the story honestly feels like it could pass for a canon arc to the larger One Piece storyline. The world of One Piece: World Seeker is rather diverse, but it also, unfortunately, feels rather deserted. Even with the patrols of pirates and navy soldiers that you may run into at any point -especially if you get caught up in using the Gum Gum Rocket to fly through the map without paying attention to what may be lurking below, as I did on a few occasions- are plentiful, the number of citizens you can speak with tends to be on the small side.

World Seeker is the first game in the franchise to feature a full open world environment. The game's setting is Jail Island, which is part of the New World. Throughout the game, you'll run into many of the Straw Hat crew. World Seekers has its own unique story that is separate from the manga.

One Piece: World Seeker is the first open world game in the series, and it shows. Not only does it fail to capture the spark that made me love One Piece , it fails to be much of an entertaining action-adventure game in its own right. The Straw Hat Pirates are lured to the island on the promise of a horde of treasure in one of the prisons, but quickly find out that this was a lie concocted by someone looking to lure them there. With the right tools, that premise could be a compelling narrative. Instead, the story merely serves as a tool to get as many of the most iconic characters in One Piece to the island for some non-canon shenanigans. The Admirals, Germa 66, Crocodile, Buggy; the list of characters given flimsy excuses to appear on Prison Island is long, and none of them are used in an effective way, with most serving as boss fights here and there.

Switch to: Deutsch. There have been many attempts to try and capture the spirit of the One Piece franchise and bring it in a videogame format as well. World Seeker was an ambitious project: an open world of One Piece fully explorable sounded like a dream come true to many fans. Perhaps it was only a half-dream that was brought back to life though. The game follows an original storyline intensively focused on two new characters, Jeanne and Isaac. Rufy and his crew arrived on an island after hearing about a bounty but will end up staying for a while and try to help its inhabitants, while fighting the Marine and other pirate baddies. We must admit that exploring the world as Rufy is incredibly satisfying, as its abilities give you almost full control of where do you want to go. Rufy has two fighting styles: Observation and Armor mode.

It has been a while since the last release of a game of the Japanese manga and anime series, One Piece. With the last being the successful One Piece Pirate Warriors 3, they needed to come up with something even better. Luffy, the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates.
The story kicks off with a failed heist at Sky Prison that sends Luffy plummeting to Prison Island, where he meets Jeanne, before rounding up the rest of the Straw Hats. I was always looking forward to seeing who I would get to spend time with in my next mission, a personal favorite being Brook the perverted skeleton. In spite of its uninviting name, Prison Island is absolutely beautiful, with lush greenery in almost every frame accentuated by perpetually clear blue skies and crystalline formations jutting out of the Earth. However, what is here is very impressive, with detailed moss climbing the side of buildings, trees softly blowing in the open air, and monolithic military buildings that loom in the distance. The island definitely has an identity of its own, it just could use some fleshing out.
Luffy goes adventuring with his merry band of misfits - the Straw Hat Pirates - on his quest to find the mythical One Piece that will make him the pirate king. The premise is simple enough; through various attempted piratical narrative shenanigans, our hero finds himself freely roaming an island that is populated primarily by Navy sailors. The Navy being sworn enemies of pirates, combat invariably ensues when Luffy is spotted. Quests are… mostly super lame. I typically end up mentally gridding the map up and just systematically covering the whole thing - although that is far from guaranteed to work. Sure, the burger now has more mass and consuming it will take more time, but people that do so are hardly likely to extol the virtues of the chef. Same deal here.
Luffy, the likeable but one track minded leader of the Straw Hat Pirates. Seriously, when that it works it feels like magic. There are market stalls and some places give the impression of interiors to be explored but are cordoned off with invisible walls that refuse you entry. World Seeker really has a wealth of missions for you to take on, from finding people to fetching items and, of course, beating people up, but a lot of the time the vague nature of them really frustrates.
