Aggretsuko intro

I found Aggretsuko at the age of Thirty seconds into the first Netflix Original episode, I shared it with my year-old mother who knows absolutely nothing about anime but a hell of a lot about hating her job. Retsuko, the little red panda Sanrio character who takes out her office frustrations by singing metal karaoke, made us cry laughing. It took some effort to get my year-old boyfriend to watch a show about kawaii cute cartoon animals, but once he watched the first episode, he binge-watched the rest of the season. Be they female, male, millennial or baby boomer, everyone loves Aggretsuko. What is particularly exciting and captivating about the character is this dichotomy of sweet, little, traditional Sanrio character, but then the other side of her is this raging metal panda.

By jamescorck. Character Aggrets. Description Today's Movie Slate is brought to you thanks to. I think it's too easy for me to say, but this was the most relaxing update to draw for this event. It's almost unfair, because the other updates were fun, and very enjoyable, but they had the moments where I was making heads or tails of the order of layers, or what step to draw next so the effects wouldn't get messed up.

Usually trying to save time only ends up making you waste time. But this update was pretty straight forward, simple, and satisfying to work on. Drawing the Retsuko face on Movie Slate was so fun and so simple it should've been illegal for me to do so, especially with the line etching that is so iconic of the cartoon. That effect is super simple to do, only took me 5 minutes to apply it to her whole body after I figured out the method that is. I always end up rambling a lot in these, do you think I should write shorter descriptions?

I will be honest, I went into " Aggretsuko " only knowing there is a show called Aggretsuko about a red panda office worker who vents her frustration singing death metal.

And it's made by the guys who own Hello Kitty? I think that combination of radically random factors was what made me give the show a go, otherwise I would've ignored it completely because the style didn't say anything to me and I was pretty baffled by the setting. But after I got past that, and embraced the hyper-exaggerated nature of the animation, I found myself watching an anime that's actually closer to the Western cartoons released during the grunge era of the 80's.

This show is closer neighbors with Ralph Bakshi and his Fritz the Cat than it is with, well, anything else coming from Japan. The stiffness of the animation on some parts notwithstanding, the subject matter of venting frustrations in an exaggerated manner with explosive results is something that could very much well fit into something like "Rock and Rule" , without losing the edge or reaching a rating above PG For a show that's so extreme it handles its balance fantastically well. It's not all roses however.

The second season is a pretty big fluke, mostly because it suffers from the so dreaded sequelitis, and the plot seems to be on repeat. There's a big problem with recurring themes, and in that regard season two plays them to a T, to the point that's a detriment. Besides that there's a handful of characters that are just downright despicable, even when they show up on screen for a quarter of a second Retsuko's mom and Anai come to mind, just to say two. But for every foible this show has and like many things that are perfect it really isn't there's another ten things that are right with it.

For every unlikeable character there's ten characters that I adore my favorite one is Director Ton, he's just fantastic. The music is great, as I think a show like this should have, and it's varied enough that even at its weakest it's still memorable and iconic. The shortcomings don't make the good things shine any less.

Aggretsuko is a show that uses its strong points so well that what little weaknesses it's got get sidelined relatively easy, as it's reliance on likeable characters, relateable settings, and good music, make for a very fun and enjoyable watch. Even if you're not into anime I say give the show a watch, and you might surprise yourself in what you'll find. Image details. Comments Join the community to add your comment. Already a deviant?

Procrastination — If you haven’t watched Aggretsuko before, I will...

I wrote a review of Aggretsuko when the English version first debuted on Netflix in April The original Japanese release came out two years earlier with its th episode concluding the month before the American premier. The first two-thirds of Season One were hilarious, relatable, and quietly revolutionary inasmuch as Japanese media can be so openly feminist. The last third was a weary slog through a tepid romantic sub-plot. While I appreciated the attempt to demonstrate how women bear disproportionate burdens in their romantic relationships, I feel like its poor placement at the end of a fairly conclusive arc tarnished its impact.

There is totally stuff I would have liked to talk about the weird generational divide between Retsuko and Ton that makes them misunderstand each other, How cool a character Hyda is and how real his reaction to Aggretsuko dating Resasuke was, Pretty much everything Resasuke, I love that idiot , but I think at a certain point that would have started getting away from why I think the show is so special.

But Sanrio always manages to keep things fresh, and new characters are often added to the lineup. On the outside, Aggretsuko is an adorable red panda. She has a half-hour commute every day, to a company where she serves as an office associate. Fans of heavy metal and death metal will definitely be able to relate to Aggretsuko, since that genre of music is pretty much her way of venting out extreme stress. We thought Badtz-Maru was cool — Aggretsuko might just be a tad bit cooler.

Aggretsuko Returns for Season 3 on Netflix

Sanrio, the Japanese company behind a slew of colorful, anthropomorphic characters -- most famously Hello Kitty -- has debuted the latest addition to its cartoon family: Aggretsuko. Like Sanrio's other characters, Aggretsuko comes with her own personality traits and extensive backstory. As it turns out, the red panda lives something of a double life. By day, she's a year-old office worker who bemoans her humdrum lot in life, beset on all sides by frustrating coworkers and a boring, repetitive job.

Retsuko is the main character in the slice of life anime Netflix original series called Aggretsuko. Retsuko is a single diligent office worker. She works along side her friends Haida and Feneko. Normally, she's soft spoken, polite, quiet, and kind of a push over. But deep down, Retsuko has a vicious temper, which she vents out by rapping death metal screamo at a karaoke room. She usually sings about love, life, work, etc.

Note that many tropes currently speak within the context of the Netflix series. As such, some tropes that apply to the TBS series might seem oddly applied, since some characters have changed personalities in between series. Characters from the Oni Press comic book go on that series' character page. The title character.
