Fruit Basket tells the story of sweet-natured orphaned highschool girl Tohru Honda, who is given a house in exchange for a housekeeping job by a novelist Shigure Soma and his two younger cousins Kyo and Yuki who just arrive in Tohrus class. The Soma family has a secret: twelve of them have an animal spirit from the Chinese Zodiac, and when embraced by someone of different sex, they transform into that animal.
Yuki is the rat, and red-haired Kyo is the cat and when Tohru discovers their secret by accident , she must be sworn to silence and leave the household. As the abyss of Tohrus the Somas, she looks unstoppable to the bad-tempered Kyo, who now suffers from the misfortune of becoming a family scapegoat and fears an awful secret.
But who was the father of the Tohrus? How did they get together? Why does he own a fruit basket with no way to live?
