Psycho-Pass (2012)(TV Series)(Complete)

Psycho-Pass is a sci-fi dystopian tale and psychological thriller animated by Production I. Anyway, in a later episode of Psycho-Pass season one, Akane and Kogami have an interesting discussion about the law.

People protect the law. Some countries have much better justice systems than others. As a citizen of the U. Ethnic minorities are treated differently than white people in almost all cases.

Women are treated differently than men in many cases. People who need protection the most are the ones who have unfairness heaped on them. Sure, things are getting better… a little… in some States, anyway. The law is the accumulation of the feelings of those people. They are neither the provisions nor the system.

Bigotry is abundant, some criminals are never held accountable, and some innocent people are wrongfully punished. The provisions of the law include things like arrests, trials, judgement, sentencing, etc. The system of the law is the setup of how it works in reality, complete with its boundaries, biases, and shortcomings. In Psycho-Pass, of course, Sybil is the system. Akane does not believe the provisions of the law are always right, and she despises the system. She protects the law as a police Inspector for a very different reason.

By her definition, the law symbolizes the combined will of all people, past and present, who seek or sought a good and just society. Inspector Tsunemori summarizes everything with her next words. In order for those wishes to carry meaning, we must try our best to protect the law to the end. We cannot give up on it. Is that a good enough reason to keep working within something like the Sybil System in Psycho-Pass? Is it true that the law breaks down because of the negative feelings of people, like hatred and rage?

What do you believe? There is so much to think about in this one anime scene. The definition of law that Akane gave was a totally new idea to me when I first watched Psycho-Pass. Her unique thoughts, and her dedication to continue in a corrupt world, making small changes from within, are things that make me love Akane Tsunemori. You are commenting using your WordPress. Early attempts to introduce the visual novel remain notable. The genre has since flourished somewhat with Telltale Games' The Walking Dead series, but these aren't visual novels in the strictest sense. The latter in particular is more of a living, breathing interactive comic book with controllable characters. Nevertheless their contribution, easing Western audiences into both the visual novel genre and in many cases anime itself, which by the mids had finally settled fully as an entertainment medium after the initial bubble of the s burst at the turn of the millennium. Fast forward ten more years, and the once-only-imaginable happened: A traditional Japanese-developed visual novel, fully translated into English, based around a leading anime production, was released on Western shores across all video game platforms. Yes, even Xbox One , where it made its debut in Japan as a timed exclusive, which is surprising given Microsoft's machine amassed lifetime sales of under , Interestingly, the Xbox One version was never localised for the west, where it no doubt would have fared better. And so Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness is indeed a visual novel in the true sense, given there is approximately fifteen hours worth of text and still images, with the only interactions being the choices you make at key junctures.

November 5, 8 Comments. The Sibyl system has created a supposedly perfect surveillance state, with very few ways of going about your daily lives unnoticed. The idea that simple things such as leaving your house or apartment can leave an electronic signature thus leaving a virtual diary of when you go out and when you come home is shocking. Such a system arguably exists in some respects today, with the increased usage of CCTV and other controls, but the system evident in Psycho-Pass takes state surveillance to somewhere altogether more scary and dangerous. In such a system it is hardly surprising that there would be those who rebelled, deciding that they are fed up with having their every move watched, to the point that something simple like a broken toilet can be tracked.

Okay, so this anime was an absolute roller-coaster! I was not someone who watched it as it aired, and thank god.

I had some vague philosophical questions after the introduction of a dynamic virtual-reality system, concerning matters of identity and what constituted reality rather than illusion, but leave it to Psycho-Pass to blow the doors right open in its latest arc. It piques my interest about a fairly eclectic range of ethical, legal, scientific, and philosophical issues, and manages to address them subtly in an incredibly satisfying manner. What appears to be a fairly formulaic method of developing a show — that is, by introducing a vast, sweeping system, and then explaining how that system interacts with the world through various iterations under different circumstances seen in Code Geass, Guilty Crown, etc — is used in a manner that would make Tolkien proud. Psycho-Pass is not world-building, and that is well evident in notable weaknesses in the joints; however, every event is a clash of ideas, a tapestry of philosophies that shift with the mindset of the viewer. I would love to revisit this series on a regular basis should my conceptual framework of the world change. When the curtains of this act opened, I found myself checking whether I was still watching the same show.

Psycho-Pass 4 [Inspectora Akane Tsunemori]

Considering how deviously Psycho Pass was playing up the mystery surrounding Karina I was suspecting a twist of some variety, but going full AI doppleganger? If people can be prodded into a certain direction by charismatic individuals through certain words, ques, and visual appearances, why even bother with the flesh and blood middleman and not just go straight for automation? When all it takes are a few pleasant words and a pretty face to gloss over the awkward truth, you can get a good idea for how critically minded human societies can be in practice. Will Sibyl tolerate the existence of an artificial mind capable of doing what it does? Can Sibyl simply let Karina be after that reveal? This season looks like the writers spent time on message boards where people discussed ways to game and avoid getting your hue clouded.
