So you are left hanging for god knows how long until there is finally enough content to make a second season or an actual conclusion.

And of course they typically end the anime just as things are getting interesting. I feel your pain. They do this contantly with manga series that are really great. It might open old wounds. I really feel that they are looking to possibly draw it out to 2 or 3 seasons. They might even try longer if it does well which it seems to be.

Additionally, considering that it is an original anime, they are rather free in what they can do. Honestly, despite how much I like this series, that would be kind of a boring end. As the world is in the middle of an industrial revolution, a monster appears that cannot be defeated unless its heart, which is protected by a layer of iron, is pierced. By infecting humans with its bite, the monster can create aggressive and undead creatures known as Kabane. On the island Hinomoto, located in the far east, people have built stations to shelter themselves from these creatures. People access the station, as well as transport wares between them, with the help of a locomotive running on steam, called Hayajiro. Ikoma, a boy who lives in the Aragane station and helps to build Hayajiro, creates his own weapon called Tsuranukizutsu in order to defeat the creatures. One day, as he waits for an opportunity to use his weapon, he meets a girl named Mumei, who is excused from the mandatory Kabane inspection. During the night, Ikoma meets Mumei again as he sees Hayajiro going out of control. The staff on the locomotive has turned into the creatures. The Koutetsujou picks up survivors from Yashiro Station which has been destroyed by the Kabane. Among the survivors is Enoku , an old friend of Mumei 's. He points out to Mumei how weak she's become as she's grown closer to the people of the Koutetsujou. Ikoma helps the bushi by developing guns and swords capable of killing the Kabane. Two men cause commotion over argument for food and that annoys Mumei and scares the children, she then beats up both of them.

Koutetsujou no Kabaneri - aka Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress - is a new anime this season, currently at 5 episodes. This anime by Wit the people behind Attack on Titan lead everyone along on the hype train until this episode. I want to start off by saying right off the bat that I'm not very prone to single episode analysis. But since many people seem to be debating upon this recent episode - came out a couple of days ago but oh well - and some even bashing on it for reasons which I do not agree with, why not throw my own opinion in the mix? This is mainly on Mumei, and Mumei only.
