Early on, since the film was first announced in , there are rumors that the film will have the Rugrats in the jungle. Eventually, the rumors were proven right. In an interview with TV Guide which I have yet to verify , it was said that the Rugrats will be stranded on an island in the Philippines. Eliza, who's also on that same island, will meet them by accident.

I bought this movie because I loved watching the RugRats when my kids were growing up! I was right!!! Great FUN! The DVD case had a little crack but it didnt affect the quality of the movie. I really enjoyed it! Got this movie for the kids and they love it! Glad it was a good deal. As in all the Rugrat movies, the "babies" have some pretty wild ideas that get them into some very tight corners, but, somehow, they always manage to come out of them unscathed!!

Unbeknownst to Tommy, his idol--naturalist and television explorer Sir Nigel Thornberry Tim Curry --is also on the island with his family to film a documentary on the rarely seen white leopard, Siri rocker Chrissie Hynde. But Spike has lost his sense of smell, thanks to jungle allergies, and isn't much help in finding their way--he bumbles along, cracking crude jokes with the help of the film's special interactive scratch-and-sniff "Odorama" feature.

FILM IN REVIEW; 'Rugrats Go Wild'
The film used "Odorama," which allowed people to smell odors and aromas from the film using scratch and sniff cards reminiscent of s Smell-O-Vision. The Rugrats go on an imaginary safari with Tommy impersonating Nigel Thornberry, who is his role model and spoofs his nature show; the babies and their families are about to go on vacation on the Lipschitz cruise ship. When the families arrive at the dock, they miss the Lipschitz cruise. Tommy's father, Stu, has rented a ramshackle boat called the S. Nancy which he reveals to be their real mode of transportation, and their real vacation. The families are angered that Stu did not consult them on his plans, and soon the boat is flipped over by a rogue wave during a tropical storm. Everyone is forced to abandon the ship and board a life raft as the ship sinks. Everyone blames Stu for causing all of this and lose hope of being saved.

The adults become mad at Stu because they thought they were going on a real luxury boat. They get even angrier when a huge ocean storm leaves them stranded on a desert island. Everyone goes their separate ways, including the babies. Nigel and their mother go looking for the leopard anyway.

A cross between two of Nickelodeon's most popular cartoons, Rugrats and The Wild Thornberrys, Rugrats Gone Wild features a soundtrack that isn't quite as kid-oriented as the Rugrats movies but isn't quite as musically sophisticated as the soundtrack to The Wild Thornberrys movie. As for the original, movie-related songs, they vary widely in quality: Bruce Willis ' songs are more fun than they have any right to be, particularly his duet with Hynde , "Big Bad Cat. Immediately upon walking into this screening, I could smell something was different. The reported viewer-reaction left studios reluctant to try future olfactory stunts. It all starts after the ever-inventing father, Stu Pickles, inadvertently convinces the gang they are going on a luxury cruise. Possibly bowled over by the novelty of sniffing my way to the credits, this pint-sized adventure seemed to go by a little more quickly than past Rugrat offerings. Parents should note some behaviors in this movie might look fun to imitate.
