Chapter 9 Chapter 10 Chapter 11 Chapter 12 Chapter 13 Chapter 14 Chapter 15 Chapter 16 Scandal-plagued idol Park Jimin has worked hard to turn his life around.

Just when things were starting to look up, his name once again becomes fodder for the gossip mill - this time linking him to the nation's sweetheart, idol Lim Hyeonju. Jimin is desperate to prove his innocence, hoping to salvage what little is left of his career. When he inadvertently backs himself into a corner with a thoughtless lie, he needs to find someone to pose as his long-time boyfriend, and quickly. Enter Jeon Jungkook - recently graduated accountant, music shop employee, aspiring musician - and Jimin's ardent fan.

Jungkook is quite possibly the only person who is willing or able to save Jimin from himself - but at what cost? See the end of the work for more notes. Jimin had a spring in his step for the first time in what seemed like months. Well, not literally his step, since currently he was sitting in the backseat of a black SUV, weaving through the heavy Friday night traffic of Seoul. But his heart felt light, and the dying sunset bathed everything in a pink glow that matched his mood.

The six weeks between then and now will fly by. Jimin felt the bubble of excitement in his stomach — it was his first comeback in 12 months.

A whole year. It all felt sweet on his tongue — the anticipation, the excitement, even the work yet to come. Jimin was determined not to waste it this time. Focus on the positive. If Hoseok felt that way, and Namjoon, and Jimin himself — well, maybe he did have reason to think that things had really, truly, finally had turned the corner for him. Jimin kept telling himself he deserved it. The car pulled into the circular drive in front of his apartment building, coming to a stop at the front door.

Jimin bowed quickly to his driver as he stepped out the open car door, slinging his bag over his shoulder and pushing his hair off of his face. He breathed a sigh of relief. This is all you, Minnie. Inserting his card into the elevator, Jimin tapped his foot as he waited for the lift that would take him directly into his apartment. He nodded politely to his neighbors as they walked past him in the lobby, phone cradled against his ear as he listened to Hoseok ramble on about the new choreography he was working on for another artist.

See you tomorrow at the studio? The apartment was as silent as ever, the only sound a soft bubbling coming from the living room. Jimin switched on the lights and approached the tank, illuminated by its own LED lighting built into the hood. He picked up a tiny packet of food, giving a teasing little shake in front of the glass, grinning.

The tank was enormous, a 40 gallon one that took up a whole corner of the room. Jimin had insisted though, and made sure to buy enough fake plants and decorations to completely fill the thing. Nothing seemed to fit. Jimin let it go, sure that the right name would appear when the time was right. Jimin had managed to get the aquarium all set up, checking the temperature and pH of the water multiple times before finally releasing the lone fish into the tank, where he sank toward the bottom.

He was still in that position, hovering motionless just over the jade green gravel, when Seokjin had arrived with takeout fried chicken and a six pack of beer. Jimin had turned to him, confused. Why is there only one? No, not puzzled. He was mocking Jimin. Jimin bristled. Very ferocious. Seokjin laughed at that, slapping his thigh in amusement. It looks like a single, leftover boba at the bottom of a glass of tea. Tonight, the small fish was nowhere to be seen. Suddenly emerging from inside the treasure chest, he swam toward Jimin, zig zagging across the front of the tank.

Jimin lifted the lid, sprinkling just a tiny amount of poppyseed-sized pellets onto the top of the water. Swimming to the surface, Boba inhaled the food and then began swimming in circles. Nothing earth-shattering — or at least nothing that had to be dealt with tonight.

The fatigue hit him like a wave, now that the adrenaline had flashed through him, leaving him a little hollow. Freshly showered and in his comfiest pair of sweats, Jimin tried to decide what food to order as he towel dried his hair. The prospect of another night in was not exactly ideal, but he knew it was important that he lay low — especially now.

The unspoken implication was that it might be his last chance — but Jimin had chosen to overlook that in his joy and relief.

Would the album truly be a success, though, like Hoseok had said, like the company seemed sure of? They were his friends, Jimin reminded himself. Of course they would want to build up his confidence. The worry about will I ever get another comeback? Seokjin had assured him numerous times, reassured Jimin an embarrassing number of times, that the furor had died down in the press and on social media. After too many degrading articles, and too many crucifying comments, Jimin had had to step fully away from the internet — and especially Twitter, where those sorts of rumors and that sort of hate seemed to fester — for his own well being.

It hurt. When the stories were true, and Jimin already had been ravaged with guilt and self loathing, it was excruciating to see people saying horrible things about him. When the articles were just flat out lies, that made it so much worse — exacerbating his already fragile state of mind, driving Jimin to even further toward more stupid, self-destructive decisions.

Hating himself was not the same as having other people hate him. Even many of his own fans, normally so supportive and loyal, had distanced themselves — or dropped him altogether. So Seokjin, being the best manager and friend that Jimin could ever ask for, had taken over. As far as Seokjin was concerned, the sooner that Jimin came to terms with how his behavior was not only destroying himself, but his career as well, the better. A career Jimin had worked so hard to build — seven long years, both as a trainee and a solo artist — was being whittled away to nothing.

It never achieved the sales or accolades of his previous releases. Was it the never-ending scandals? The divergence of the music and concept from what had become expected of him? Jimin had been surprised that BHE had even gone ahead with the release at all, considering the state of his reputation. Instead, it was dismissed. The journalists had stopped following Jimin around once they found that the only places he went were to work and back home. The tabloids had stopped plastering his face at the top of every webpage.

The antis on Twitter had mostly stopped using him as the butt of every joke. The general public had moved on to other scandalous stories — never the ones that mattered, Jimin thought scornfully.

Jimin was tempted to check for himself. At the very least, Jimin wanted to be prepared. Why get his hopes up if things were destined for disaster? He chewed on his lip, weighing the pros and cons. He tried to distract himself by perusing his Netflix suggestions, and drinking half the bottle of wine that Namjoon had gifted him on his birthday a few weeks before. The pull to check his neglected social media accounts kept getting stronger.
