It was a series about how an innocent meeting between two different people can change the way they look at the world forever. Between them they were the light and the dark in the series, with Yuuko being used in places as a metaphor for peoples inability to truly accept their own dark sides, as if it would destroy them. Her fear of the emotions and feelings that she felt during her final moments set of a chain of events that filled Seikyou Academy with ghost stories and supernatural phenomenon. She was so afraid of her own darkness and the negative emotions that were associated with it, that Yuuko pushed it away, creating shadow Yuuko.

In the context of the episode it arrives when Kirie challenges Teiichi's vision of Yuuko as a busty, alabaster skinned school-girl and instead claims she is "dripping with hatred" with filthy, cracked skin. From then on Teiichi can only see this ghoulish visage of Yuuko until he forcibly excises it from his mind. What Kirie does with Teiichi is just as interesting though because the scene where his perception of Yuuko changes, Kirie doesn't so much challenge him but state exactly what she looks like, first by sowing enough doubt in his mind then reforming his opinion. Essentially, she's psychologically priming him. For the most part this happens throughout our every day lives and is innocuous enough; it can however be used for more nefarious purposes by con artists and salesmen though to help better their pitch.

Kirie possesses an uncanny resemblance to Yuuko Kanoe , although Kirie has her hair much shorter than Yuuko's hair. She also has an athletic physical build, although she is insecure to Yuuko's comparatively large breasts. Initially, Kirie shows a tomboyish behavior, showing off a confident attitude that is not swayed by the opinions of others.

On the other hand, Kirie tries to protect Teiichi-kun from Yuuko because she suspects that the Dusk Maiden can haunt anyone and spirit them away. Her character took some time for me to like in the manga since she was always so wary of Yuuko in the earlier chapters. She makes her entry by sending a warning letter to Teiichi about Yuuko, which means she definitely can see Yuuko. Believing her to be the ghost that snatches students, Kirie took it upon herself to educate Teiichi about what befalls him. This is an example of what Yuuko said last episode, in that, her appearance manifests into how a person perceives her. For example, Momoe saw Yuuko as a demon, and as a result, she was perceived by Momoe as a genuine, shadowy demon. Then again, Kirie said that she may have always seen Yuuko as just another student. What could she have seen that made her think otherwise?
