Lord Fanny Member. Apr 25, 16, I mean, you just described what happened. I don't really think it was all that vague or anything. Goku disappeared with Shenron to go on some vague journey and basically fuse with the essence of the Dragon Balls, and then many years later is seen in glimpses by his daughter as his great grandson fights in a tournament. It's somewhat ambiguous as to whether she saw him for real, coming back in some spirit form to watch Goku Jr in his first big fight or whether it was her imagination, but the actual events themselves are pretty straight-forward.
As far as why it happened, I believe the idea was that the power of the Dragon Balls had been so corrupted due to overuse that Shenron basically had to take that power and leave the Earth for it to be purified and Goku was his usual self and decided to fuck off and see what that nonsense was about instead of being with a family that loved his bum ass.

Absolutely not. That means that Beerus was still 4 levels higher than Goku after he obtained godhood, and Whis was 9 levels higher! For even more evidence, people have started saying that Broly is roughly equal in power to a Super Saiyan 4. Considering that SS4 smacked Shenron around like a plaything, Beerus would have no problem accomplishing the same feat.

It lasted for 64 episodes, ending due to dwindling viewership and negative fan response. Dragon Ball GT settles on mediocrity for 63 and a half episodes before it suddenly gets very interesting heading into the finale. For all intents and purposes, Goku actually does die in this final fight. Omega Shenron seemingly finishes him off, only for Goku to mysteriously appear with the universal Genki Dama. The entirety of Dragon Ball GT is filler.

But here's the kicker: Goku still has nearly as much power as he did at the end of Z, making the change in his body almost purely cosmetic.
