I decided to go see it, even if I didn't appreciate the previous films so much. The story is once again parallel to the scenario of the manga : it can fit but does not exist in the original version written by Masashi Kishimoto, who by the way was not involved in this Blood Prison film. The actual Blood Prison movie begins with a short film of about ten minutes, in which Naruto participates in a new Chunin exam in the hidden sand village. After all, even if he is the hero of Konoha, Naruto is still a Genin.

Naruto Shippuden: The Blood Prison. Blood Prison is the 5th Naruto Shippuden movie. This is the first half — the low powered half. Can Naruto survive without his powers? It feels long ago that Naruto either the character or the plot had something other than hugely dramatic and visual power levels to deal with.
This is a reminder of earlier days and gives us a different, yet familiar, Naruto story. In this half of the movie we just deal with Naruto and characters introduced by the prison plot. It feels clean and crisp. The prison is a box of monsters. Can he keep Naruto locked away? Can he keep Naruto safe? Anime Film Review- Naruto the Movie: Blood Prison
Like other movies in the franchise, it was produced by Studio Pierrot, distributed by Toho Studios, and was later dubbed into English by Viz Media. This review is based on the dub. It is led by the cold-hearted Lord Mui Matthew Mercer , who laces a seal on Naruto that allows him to drain chakra energy from the prisoners. The two decide to work together to stop them before it is too late. This movie was shockingly darker than a lot of Naruto films. It featured sadistic prison guards, a father who willingly killed his own son, and criminals who have done some incredibly cruel things. The show and films do not shy from darker themes, but this one felt like it was a whole different level. I was not sure what to expect, but it ultimately worked. The art design was impressive this time around.

As the eighth film in the Naruto franchise, Naruto: Blood Prison pulls no punches in jumping right into a plot and story that fits somewhere outside of the canon of the main series. Like most films, it introduces viewers to a plethora of new characters and toys around with the idea of an unbeatable enemy, only for Naruto to beat it at the end. Maybe the writers forgot about who Naruto is, but most of the Shinobi world, including the Hidden Leaf, know all about Naruto. He is an impulsive, brash child who only gets serious about certain events, like his caring for Sasuke and Sakura. He is not a good ninja in the traditional sense.
