Enamored of the character's voice characterization, provided by June Foray , Jones developed his own Witch Hazel character for the Bugs Bunny short Bewitched Bunny The story retells the classic fairy tale " Hansel and Gretel ", and Witch Hazel, naturally, plays the witch who tries to cook and eat the children. Bugs Bunny witnesses her coaxing the children inside, however, and saves the youths from Witch Hazel's clutches.

Disney's version of the character was modeled after a nurse named Hazel employed by Disney who everybody loved, while Jones' character was simply a pun on the plant that many believe powerfully wards off infections.

One Hundred Witches — 32- Witch Hazel

Both have a character named Witch Hazel, both are voiced by the same actor June Foray , both of the stories involve trick-or-treaters. Fom then on they start to differ. She has a large overweight body, very short skinny legs, a big angular bulbous nose. Her hands are very skinny and bone-like with knuckles, not always common in cartoons. In contrast the Disney Witch Hazel is a lot more generic. She has a wart, cleft chin, a couple of winkles on her lip and a bulbous nose not as large or angular as WB. With green skin, Witch Hazel stands on tiny, spindly legs and has a frumpy bust and rear. Frayed black hair, an enlarged nose, and a protruding chin complete her look as a stereotypically traditional evil hag witch. She is in every way the inverse of the good-intentioned Disney Witch Hazel, and as such, conveys some less than pleasant themes and messages. The plots of the various cartoons she appears in are usually quite similar, following the standard trope of Bugs Bunny in that they contain parallels and references to classic mythology, legends, and stories. Filling the role of the witch from tales such as Hansel and Gretel, Snow White, and a particular Shakespearian trio who will appear later in this series, Witch Hazel is plugged in to the well known archetypes. The traditional plot is usually put on hold, however, once she discovers Bugs Bunny.
