Valvrave the Liberator (Seasons 1 and 2)

One of the great things about anime is that there's a series for everyone. No matter the genre or story, anime is a spectrum full of narratives that anyone will find a reason to enjoy in some way. Deciding what makes an anime horrible is pretty hard to do. Everyone has their own reasons for liking or disliking one anime over another. Most of the time, horrible anime falls into a "so bad that's it's good" category.

Even when most people think the anime is terrible, they still continue watching it. Their reasons might be due to a likable character, a compelling plot, or great animation. Future Diary wasn't exactly an anime that was received badly. In fact, most people were able to enjoy the anime throughout. Overall, Future Diary had a likable story and an interesting plot. The biggest issue people had was Yukiteru's character, as many considered him a bland protagonist.

Still, his wimpy tendencies weren't bad enough to hate the entire show. The thing that really upset people was the ending. Despite the debate that the OVA version is the true ending, the original ending simply missed the mark. Fans felt that it was rushed and didn't fit with the rest of the story. Darling in the Franxx started off strong and is a decent take on the romance and mecha genres. About halfway through, the story seemed to lose its touch, and its already average story became even more average.

The one good thing about Darling in the Franxx was the fan-favorite character, Zero Two. The ending is really what left fans disappointed.

Many felt it was rushed, which affected the overall impact of the show. Despite having a story that starts out well but gets slow and uninteresting towards the end, it includes a character who's hard to dislike, so Darling in the Franxx is at least worth a try.

This series had a great animation style, straightforward openings, and gory fight scenes that fit its premise of zombies in a high school. The zombie genre is very well known and Highschool of the Dead does a good job by not making it feel drawn out or dull. The main thing fans disliked about this show was the fanservice.

An action-fueled fight scene would always end with suggestive frames surrounding the female characters. This heavy use of fanservice started to feel forced onto watchers. Although there wasn't much of a story, fans who continued watching were still able to enjoy Highschool of the Dead 's classic zombie tropes.

This anime was based on a game , which meant action first and narrative second. The murder mystery aspects of the story give Danganronpa an edge that's intriguing and engaging. The problem with this game adaptation was that it was very action-heavy, which left little room for the plot to develop. When there was a chance to take the plot to the next level, it never happened.

Emotional moments in the story were only done to make certain characters' deaths more impactful. The story wasn't terrible, it was just very basic. But the intense moments of the show still made it enjoyable to watch.

A gaming world where all players who die in-game also die in real life is a compelling premise. Sword Art Online had an amazing concept and sounded promising, but halfway through, the story went a different direction.

The show ended up feeling more like a romance anime due to the focus on Kirito and Asuna's relationship. Fans also felt that Kirito as a protagonist was fairly lackluster, and at times unlikable. Many also criticized him as irrational. This didn't ruin the anime entirely though, and despite the hate, Sword Art Online still has action-filled and emotional moments that are worth watching. The biggest problem with this anime was the characters.

They all had some questionable personality traits that fans found frustrating at times. These characters came across as unlikeable and a little cringeworthy, but at the same time, they were very entertaining to watch.

Valvrave the Liberator has been praised for its amazing visuals and attention to detail with an equally great OST. Simply put, this show was meant to be a fun and easy watch. The story itself didn't need to be detailed and that's what made it good. Fanservice is pretty common in anime. Many anime feature fanservice and it can be considered tolerable if it isn't done all the time, but it seemed like Prison School relied on fanservice as an entire plot point.

Despite this aspect, fans still found other ways to enjoy the show, especially with its comedic moments that are actually funny and worthwhile. Many are able to look past the fanservice and enjoy it as a comedy anime, so this feature didn't stop them from continuing to watch it.

The biggest downfall of Deadman Wonderland was its length. This anime is only 12 episodes long but in order to flesh out the storyline better, it needed to be at least double the length. One of the main reasons very few liked this show was because the ending was so abrupt and unfinished.

The show ended barely even on a cliffhanger, and it was honestly just unsatisfying. The manga also has mixed opinions on if it's good or not, but overall, Deadman Wonderland definitely had an engaging story and truly had the merit to be great.

The series was just poorly executed and never got the chance that it deserved. When it was announced that Naruto would continue on with a new generation, it left fans with mixed feelings. Despite the speculations, fans still gave Boruto a chance.

Most were left disappointed, as beloved Naruto characters were reduced to just being the parents of Boruto characters.

Naruto himself finally became Hokage, but nothing really came from it. Despite all this, Boruto still has some great moments, such as Naruto's Baryon Mode fight , which is more than enough to make fans stick around and give this anime a shot. Fairy Tail has definitely made a name for itself as one of the most popular anime ever, but it comes with some heavy criticism.

Over time, fight scenes and conflicts always seemed to be resolved over "the power of friendship. This trope isn't liked by many fans, as it's considered a poor excuse for winning a fight. Despite this unwelcome reason for victory, Fairy Tail still had plenty of striking and emotional moments that made it good enough to finish watching.

For all that it seems to have tried to include every cliche and trope ever used in mecha and sci-fi, the plot is coming together splendidly and the cast is finding traction in places where one might have expected it. Making supporting characters interesting has always been a strength of Valvrave , and the quality goes far deeper into the cast than most of its competitors. One aspect of this season I really like is the way Yama Arashi has been growing steadily more human and multi-faceted, even as the heroes side has been growing more and more dysfunctional and angry. I hope not, as he was quickly becoming one of the most interesting characters in the entire cast. Those runes, as it happens, are being harvested from a huge number of Dorssian victims all of whom seemed to be female unless my eyes deceived me on board the Phantom, a secret submarine the Dorssian royalists contract L-Elf to destroy in exchange for providing logistical support.

Where does one begin to go in describing that episode? In fact, in hindsight I think it would have been better without the timeskip altogether, because things got to a point where we had a memorable and well-done — if very sad — emotional climax, and the audience would have done just fine coming up with the rest in their imaginations.
