Hayao miyazaki and the ghibli museum
As an artist, filmmaker, and co-founder of the legendary Studio Ghibli, Hayao Miyazaki has been enthralling audiences for decades with his compelling creative vision. Now his work takes centre stage at the Academy Museum with a comprehensive retrospective that features original storyboards, character designs and animation cels by the man himself. Written by: Dom Carter. Named Hayao Miyazaki, the exhibition is the first time a North American museum has paid tribute to his work. Launched to mark the grand opening of the Academy Museum itself earlier this year, the Hayao Miyazaki retrospective is an immersive experience that will delight fans of his films. With so much of the art on display making its first appearance outside of Japan, it's unsurprising to learn that the exhibition took years of planning and cooperation between the Academy Museum and Studio Ghibli.

Yearning for some therapeutic massage? This week is your reason to book that trip to Batam, Bangkok or Bali! A brand-new short film by anime director Hayao Miyazaki is scheduled to screen in Japan this March. The museum's website introduces Miyazaki's new work as follows: "Just before dawn, Boro the Caterpillar hatched from an egg among patches of scrub grass. Looking around for the first time, he noticed the brilliance of the morning sun and a deliciousness in the air. Boro lowered himself down to the ground from the borogiku groundsel , and stepped out into the world of caterpillars and caterpillars' enemies.
Studio Ghibli is releasing a limited edition book in homage to the Ghibli museum

This museum is the heart of the Studio Ghibli world, a beloved even 'adored' film studio responsible for classic, critically-acclaimed animated titles like Spirited Away, My Neighbour Totoro, Ponyo and Princess Mononoke, among countless others. Unlike Disney World, this is a museum, not a theme park, but the levels of fandom on show are likely to be just as intense. Master animator Miyazaki Hayao, who co-found Studio Ghibli and directed some of its best-known works, designed the museum, and kids will become immediately captivated by the fairy-tale atmosphere, from the spiral staircases seemingly leading to dead ends to the replica of the giant cat bus from My Neighbour Totoro. Fans will enjoy the original sketches on display, as well as the host of original short films playing at the small on-site Saturn Theater.
Studio Ghibli is set to showcase its iconic animations in exhibitions arriving in Tokyo and Kyoto , Japan this summer. The show will be highlighting the works of Toshio Suzuki, a long-time friend and collaborator of Hayao Miyazaki. Fans will be able to view films through the lens of Suzuki with a range of installations for an interactive experience. The bathhouse from Spirited Away will also receive a life-size installation exclusively in Tokyo. You can head over to the official website to learn more.
When we think of Studio Ghibli, more than thoughtfully created, whimsical animations come to mind. Their films are the child-appropriate cartoons that everyone can, and wants to watch. Evocative, joyful, and sentimental, the characters from Ghibli's collection of dozens of animated films have made a home in our hearts, transcending any connection to time and place - just memory. Now, Hayao Miyazaki , the animation director who sits at the helm of the production company , and has been the mind behind some of Ghibli's most iconic films like Spirited Away and Howls Moving Castle, is bringing his art to you via a limited edition collection of books titled Hayao Miyazaki and the Ghibli Museum. The editions will serve as an archive of work-in-progress illustrations that have rarely been seen by the public, Hayao Miyazaki and the Ghibli Museum will include original illustrations that Miyazaki has crafted throughout his legacy at Studio Ghibli. The books will pay homage to the countless exhibitions that the production house has held at the Ghibli Museum in the past two decades since opening, that detail various pillars of the Ghibli world, like food, forests, and individual film exhibitions. For those of us who have never made it to the museum in Mitaka, Tokyo, this collection of books is your ticket to seeing it all from the comfort of your living room.
