There have been a lot of celebrations in the dugout for the Atlanta Braves lately. This win streak has certainly helped get our Atlanta Braves back into a position to threaten the Mets with 15 head-to-head games remaining against them.

But how good is it, really? That club went on to win games, but fell in the playoffs during their first-round divisional series. The surprising part, though, might be this: in the last years of organized major league baseball, there have only been 52 streaks lasting 14 games or longer.

The Braves already have four entries on that list. The year was From August 30th of that season 8 games until May 21st of the next year 6 more games , the Beaneaters won every game they played… 14 in a row. Alas, the team was steamrolled themselves, finishing Together, the two teams dominated the 8-team league.

Beginning in , a World Series was played between the champions of each league. The Braves also won 14 straight games… twice requiring extra innings to keep the streak going. The victims included the Marlins, Nationals, Phillies, Cardinals, and Rockies — the latter of which was outscored in a 3-game stretch … and those games were in Atlanta. The Upton brothers were both in the house, and the pitching rotation included names like Medlen, Minor, Maholm, Teheran, and Hudson… supported by save closer Craig Kimbrel.

The modern-day record-long win streak for this franchise belongs to the Atlanta Braves and their previous generation of stars, including Chipper Jones , Andruw Jones , Rafael Furcal , Javy Lopez , and Andres Galarraga.

Current broadcaster Brian Jordan was also on that team. This also ranks as the longest streak with the team calling Atlanta their home. John Rocker saved 41 games that season.

From April 16th through May 2nd, they ripped through California and Pennsylvania teams: the Dodgers — twice — the Padres, Phillies, Pirates, and then tacked on one more against Milwaukee to complete the run. Alas, this was another club that fell in the first round of the playoffs, despite a regular-season record.

This team finished in first place with a record of , winning the pennant. Again, this was another season that pre-dated the World Series, so a celebration was still in order. Technically, it could be considered a streak of either 18 or 19 games. On September 16th, the Beaneaters beat the Chicago Colts. The next day, they tied the Pirates. Then they reeled off the actual win streak 17 in a row. So while the win streak was properly cast as 17 games, their unbeaten streak was 19 games… or perhaps 18 wins in between losses.
