Photo credit: threezero. The Scopedog is probably one of the most iconic real robot designs of the 80s and one of the most utilitarian of all Japanese anime mecha. When I interviewed Okawara recently he was very upfront about the fact that the mecha were often designed before a series was commissioned. In effect, designed before anyone knew what the story would be. This was down to the fact that toy companies would act as sponsors for anime, so needed the toys designed up front before they would invest on the anime itself.
The unveiling ceremony will take place on March 15 at the Inagi Pear Park. Famed mechanical designer Kunio Okawara , who designed the Scopedogs and was involved in the creation of the statue, will be attending the event. Okawara posted about his work on Twitter and showed a photo of the location where the Scopedog will be situated. The theme of the event will be gunpla. Entry is free, and up to spots are available.
